what cars would you drive for 1.5k - 2k other than novas, that are old skool and you dont see many of ?
For that money just about anything you like, 205's XR2's RS turbo's etc etc just depends what condition you want for your cash.
For that sort of money you'll be buying the dregs,
good turbos still fetch upto 4 grand and series 1's are still rising in value,
rs1800 fiesta then zvh turbo convert it or mk5 escort xr3i or mk6 escort gti
anything made before the mid 90's are getting pricey now.
205 gti
chevette
volvo 340
capri
loads others but its late and i cant think of them :p
My mate sold his S1 RS 2-3 years ago for about £2750 and that had full documented rebuild etc.
Look at the price of them now, a guy I sort of know sold a H reg series 2 in white with 45,000 miles ish for a touch over £10k !!
There were a couple of series ones on the bay at 8 grand too
fords will always get a better price than vauxhalls,
One old ford I will always want is a black 2.9 XR4x4, still cheap too you'll get one for a grand easy.

do you think im better off chucking all my money into a nova or driving one as it is when its bought so i can save x amount of cash and have about 4k end of next year for something else ? like something new and jap, less likely to depreciate and will be worth the money i put into it ?
Depends what you buy against how much you loose, since I bought my S3 6 years ago I've lost £12,000 of it's value lol
shoite happens but when I bought it it was 3 years old and only 32,000 miles and had lost £10,000 from it's price when new.
Cars can loose you alot of cash, such is life.

£2k may get you a half decent E30 325 Sport. Not sure what size of car you are after, but imo that's the best 'old skool' car around for that money.

I like E30's, after a hatchback though.
I dont know what to do, chuck all my money into a nova (which would mean keeping it for a very long time to get my moneys worth standing me at 4/5k) or drive a nova (cause its what i've wanted for too long) for a year and then sell up add the value to my savings and spend 5k on something that is going to fetch atleast 4 back or get me a swap on something else deicent. From what i've seen people chuck so much money into Novas and dont see half of it back, is it worth it ?

This is exactly what i was gonna say, even more so if u get a tourer!

I'v seen a smoothed white yaris on white rota grids. with some bucket seats, rwd conversion and a vtec yo i think it'd easily fetch my cash back over a nova and sell quicker and less likely to depreciate..
Modified cars most of the time you will lose your money. Opt for something like an E30 and make sure any mods are removable same with any car

Iv done the maths and worked my plan out now, going to run a nova for a year and save £100 a month from work, and the £550 im saving on insurance, should have 4000 - 4700 by the time my ncb is up and then i'l get something that is going to be a good all round car, nice reliable and warm, t/c pas and all that s**t and over a w/x reg
You dont always lose money modifying, if the car appeals to the right person who has the right amount of cash you never know ! but the majority of time you do unfortunately lol
I looked at pauls liquid yellow LET, the amount of money he must of put into that, to put the car up at 7.5k (less than half of what hes paid for the build im guessing) and not sell, then have to break it, and the black and red gte for 5.5k that still hasnt sold (H1 GTE i think?) i couldnt lose THAT much cash, i'd have to keep it forever. iv lost a lot of cash this year on cars which is why iv been asking this. i know it happens but im just trying to lose as little as possible and avoid it !
Whos gonna sell me a nova then ? £800 here for now
Sounds sensible to me. Plenty of reliable Novas around that money

Sensible's the word im looking for lol i drove rs turbos at 17/18, the amount of cash iv wasted on insurance and cars that are not gonna get half of what i paid for them back is unreal, im literally almost skint atm and its from driving. obviously driving isn't a money maker but i dont want to lose more than 1k a year on my cars value and iv been looking and if i spent my total of 5k over the year on a nova id be lucky to get half of that back. who knows though, they might go up in price and if they do and depreciation is less, 5k build it will be
Lmfao at working out depreciation on a nova, especially a modified nova lol
For 2k I personally would be looking at 309 gtis, 205's, R5gtt's, E30's and possibly saxo vtr/s

You can get ibezzza turbos for 2k now, faster, better built, more spec and safer than any old hot hatch.
^ yeas but Imprezas are naff.
If I was looking old classic, Dolomite would probably be high on my list :d

Hmm. Buying pre-built is certainly cheaper than building; but the cost is in one shot, not spread out. Plus you can never guarantee the quality of work, unless you're spending big. And with building a car, you'll always end up paying out more to build it than when you come to sell it; in fact with 95% of the time you'll make a loss on a car. Of course there's exceptions, but majority of the time that rule stands.
As for jap... don't assume that won't depreciate lol Its al down to what you want though. Would I buy a £4k Nova? No. Would I buy a £4k ST205? Yes.

I'd be looking for a standard 1.3 SR or maybe even a GTE for that money. Spend a long time searching for the right one and look after it and you won't lose money on it. Stay away from modified if you dont want depreciation
