View Full Version : Opening Rear Windows - The Truth

I was always told these were standard fit in the more southern parts of Europe, but recently a few Spanish members have also said they are hard to find, I know there are a few members on here with them and they change hands for large sums of money imo but there are usually for three door models and most of the time are incomplete, I know Steve (Duick) has a set fitted to his two door (TR) but these are the only set I have ever seen for a saloon, does anyone know what contry these were standard fit on? Does anyone know which countries the Nova / Corsa a was sold in?

Edd
06-11-10, 07:37 PM
I think they were optional extra in every country I think

Don't think I ever seen a set for a saloon tho

bazil
06-11-10, 07:43 PM
Yip saloons have there own glass, different from hatch ones avalible in clear or bronze and different rubbers from hatch too, even the latch to open them are different from the hatch, infact the only part that is the same is the rubber grommits in the B post.

Graeme
06-11-10, 07:50 PM
Cheers for that Bazil, didn't know that

Some glass here not sure if it's a full set, on my phone so can't check numbers on EPC, seals and grommets are going to be a problem I reckon tho

I know Steve had a right job trying to find ones for his saloon so you might struggle.

Graeme
06-11-10, 08:19 PM
I have heard that before Rich, have you got any good leads for me to try Rich, pretty please?

Damo
06-11-10, 08:20 PM
Graeme can you not get your original rear windows cut and adapted to open out?

Perhaps use a latch off a mk3 fiesta or summat?

Damo.

I'm sure some in that link are saloon ones

Not really, I'll have a dig around but Steve is prob your best bet

Graeme can you not get your original rear windows cut and adapted to open out?

Not an option, opening glass is larger than a fixed glass

Tried loads of different handles but none have come close so far.

I'm sure some in that link are saloon ones

Nope, only hatch glass for one side.

no, the glass is to small the opening window glass is larger than the standar glass, rubbers aint so difficult as many other cars have rubbers that can be used/adapted

cud

Cud is a portion of food that returns from a ruminant's stomach in the mouth to be chewed for the second time. More accurately, it is a bolus of semi-degraded food regurgitated from the reticulorumen of a ruminant. Cud is produced during the physical digestive process of rumination, or "chewing the cud". The idiomatic expression chewing one's cud means meditating or pondering.

This game is fun. lol

If we are getting really pedantic:

cud

Pronunciation:/kʌd/
noun
[mass noun]
partly digested food returned from the first stomach of ruminants to the mouth for further chewing

deer

Pronunciation:/dɪə/
noun (plural same)
a hoofed grazing or browsing animal, with branched bony antlers that are shed annually and typically borne only by the male
Family Cervidae: several genera and many species

you can still get the B piller rubbers and hinges. for the window rubber, i can get new ones for mk1 astra's, i can check for nova's aswell.

i placed them in my mk1 astra this week, with all new parts.
if someone know's the size of the B piller rubbers for a nova, i have an extra set for sale from a mk1 astra.

Graeme
07-11-10, 12:20 PM

Pistol Pete
07-11-10, 12:23 PM
Not yet. Need to finish my roof lining so i can fit it all. TBH, i didnt notice much difference, BUT lol they still had the plastic film and i was sooooo nervous about dropping them whilst me and my dad sorted the fixings!!!

Will get some pics up when they are fitted.

mayhem is right, Rear opening quarters were never fitted in any country as standard. only as an option. And they are rare in every country.
And it's also not true that I have a set on my saloon :(

Steve knows more about Corsa A's/Nova's than you will ever know.

This is a loon latch, it is different from a hatch one where the 3 screws go thorough, on a hatch latch the base is flat on this it's rounded.

I've checked EPC and astra mk2 ones are different.
