well had to get a raplacement alternator for my c14se, my mate had one but it was slightly larger than mine not sure what its from

anyway i fitted it and its reading 13-14v idle and going up to 19 at full rev :(

is this just because its a larger alternator? im guessing ill need the same one as my old?

it should still charge at ~14.4, but higher amperage capable. Have the same issue with mine atm and keep meaning to get a thread up to see if its new alt time or I can just change the charge relay, which I believe is the little black box on the alternator.

Will be the alt regulator on the back, If you can find the bits, You can change them. Not such a common thing these days though unless you use, used stuff.

Your regulator is buggered.

You're also probably feeding the battery with AC rather than DC. That will sh*g the battery pronto.

Don't run it until you get it fixed IMHO.

spot on, mine went and was pumpin 26v into my battery, which on a 3 min drive @ about 30 swelled up and started to vibrate :(

They can gas big time and that could lead to *BANG* as the hydrogen says pop!
Plus the acid makes a mess of the under-bonnet paintwork.
