It could be that they have damaged themselves on something. Do you keep them in a tank or pond?
are they male or female?
how do you tell?
kept in a tank with plenty of room

Well, all I have is three ideas:
1. They have somehow damaged themselves and these are scares that are healing.
2. It could be a fungal infection.
3. It is mating season (or at least my fish are at it) and this may be a natural thing.
think it's more likely to be the infection as where the spots are doesn't look like bruises an don't think they have been at it will see what happens.
cheers for your help.
you up on the a47?

dude, i used to work in a place called the goldfish bowl.
big aquatic shop in oxford.
As goldfish get older they often change pigmentation.
9 times outta 10 a change in colour is simply that.
if u need any more advice, pm me.
I'll try my best
Well it is definately dying, all of my goldfish i av had, have all had black spots on them b4 they die.................rrrrrrrr bless!!!
I dont get them anymore, gets me all emotional wen they die. :o :o
my bets a fungal infection. However theres nothing in any related fishy sites that indicates black blobs are fungaly?
Change the water, clean the glass and sanitise the water
You can buy some stuff to put in the water to help nbalance the pH.
Check these sites out (got from google.com under search goldfish illness )-
