View Full Version : 15" tyre stretching

I am slowly muching through my tyres on my saloon's 7" Ronal Turbos and was looking at getting some narrower tyres to go stretched....

I currently have 195 45, so what are my options?

185 55?

175 60?

Any pics etc?

I dont want them to look silly, just a bit more stretched than they do now...

try the 185 55s and i have heard of dubbers using nitrogen to fill em as it doesnt deform under heat like air.

Edd

I have 175/50's on my 7j 14's, nitrogen filled also

Dom

They also do 165/50's which give a good stretch which is what ill be going for on my 15x7's for my Astra:thumb:

How jealous am I of that wheel and tyre combo.
A little off topic but am I right in thinking there Zender turbo's?

Dom

my thought exactly.
First saw a set on a mk2 golf when I was at Vag-Opel. All I can say is it was love at first sightlol

lol. Depends on the car IMO. I'm not big on these Zenden things, Ronal turbo's etc.

That M3 has more than a touch of DTM and drift look about it though IMO. Awesome. They look like BBS but centre locks possibly. They have to be 19x10 too?

Edd

185 45 15 are the winners I think!

On your daily driver? thats going to be comfy!

I ran 175/50/15 on a 7j zender rim et25 on that sheddy euro thing i did.

The stretch was tiny really and the sidewalls were too big, i wanted to go down to a 165/40/15 which would of given a better look.

Will F
04-11-10, 01:24 PM
It depends on tyre manufacturer too - some have huge bulging walls, some dont - and because it is a daily, I dont want to go nuts - its only a 'step' narrower than I am on now, o should be too bad (Ben).

the 175's were ok for an every day used tbh will, but becuase i had the coilovers wound down as far as i could this is what ruined the ride that along with et25 offset rims.

But, the same rims on a -60mm corsa was fine and dandy tbh.

jup, Zender turbo fase II to be exact. the same as the beige golf next to my nova at vag-opel.

175-50-15 is perfect on a 7j. i have them on my ronal turbo's.

there is also a 165-50-15, that is very cheap

165.45.15 on a 7.... 50's look too big.... they dont do 40's on a 15....

Will i'm with Ben, are you sure on the daily? it won't handle very well you know lol

Are they that bad?

I am expecting a slight reduction in ride, but just how bas at andling are they!? The tyres I have at the mo are like baloons!

Hmmm - I am stumped then. Especially as I have an extra 60 bhp to bolt on in teh next few months...

Ditching the airbox and getting a cone filter alongside a fse regulator and superchipping the bad boy?

thats my nova at the top of that page,
i run 165/50 bridgestone potenzas, on a 7j rim ET24 mine drives sound and handles ace!
rides is a bit hard i suppose, but no worse than any other low profile tyre.

i have 175-50-15 on my turbo's dude, the good years on the front have a bit of stretch, the kumho's on the back have no stretch at all. if your gonna go for the eurine look stay away from the kerbs! the lip on the turbo's stick out loads, and you will cry if you cuff one........i did!

Will F
05-11-10, 10:51 PM
37 mate - what does it drive like? I am being turned off the idea now following some of the comments!

Its bad enough with a piffling XE with 195 45s lol

If i really had to say, my only guess was just all rear, wider, CSL wheels, but when i look at the centre cap, somethings not right. Ill check!

EDIT - nowhere near CSL wheels! lol

I think they ^ are either Work wheels or BBS.... leaning towards BBS as dont know if Work do 5x120.....

with the 28's on it drives really nice, the 37's would rub my front coilovers and then i would have to had to put spacers on which i didnt want. i would stick to your 195-45-15 mate, but get something good mate, if i remember right, you have roadstone/nexen tyres on your rims?

Yeah - they are discusting tyres tbh - but they were new on when I bought the wheels!

Why you say stick with 195s?

I use 165/55 on an 8j rim. Never had a problem with them.

i know that because im a rubber guru! i would stick with that size mate because you have so much choice in that size, ive got 175-50-15,s and all i can get in that size now is kumho. i had 195-45-15 goodyear gsd3 on there to start with but they rubbed all round really bad. if i had the 37ml offset wheels i would of left the goodyears on there as i really rate them well, i also rate the toyo t1r but what ever you go for as long as its not a budget, you should notice a hudge difference mate!

But surely I wont get any stretch at all with a 195 tyre?

175-50 is available in 3 brands.

iirc i've got continentals on mine.

165-45-15 is cheap, and a iirc bridgestone does them.

Edd

A 165 is surely going handle like crap tho ?

I'm thinking my 175's might be too thin

you wont get much stretch mate but with a 16v, i reckon it will drive horrible if you go down to a 165-50-15 or 175-50-15.

In my experience, 175 & less width on a lowered Nova will just understeer like crazy. With reasonable power under the bonnet, I dread to think what it will be like with your foot in.

Will F
11-11-10, 08:32 AM
Hence why I think a 185 would be a reasonable compromise...?

I can only see one brand (Khumo again) that do a 185 45 15 and they come in at £45 ish... :)

185-45-15 is also available from Wanli.. (ditchfinders is an understatement)

i have no problems with 175-50 on a 7j. drives perfect.

Escort Cos wheels Cle? My mate couldn't fit them to his mk5 without the arches eating the tyres, and it wouldn't reverse at all lol.

I guess there were 225's. lol
