I was having a nose about in the "How To" articles etc and I came across this http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=111240. Now does this same problem happen with the Mk1's?? Or was it just a Mk2 problem??

its a mk2 thing.. the mk1 is completely different

As above, though a converted mk1 with replacement loom would presumably be at risk of this also.

er.... I have a 1992 SRi
This was the first trick a mate of mine tried when I bought it whaaay back in 1996. It did not work. The ignition did not come on. I have not modified the wiring, nor had the previous owner.

Hows it work?!

I have done this on nearly every nova i have owned (100's) and it has worked on every single one! never found one that has even been modified!

No.... I mean... the dash wiring on mine has never been modified since install. Yet this hack to provide ignition power has never worked on mine, even though the wiring is unmodified. Any ideas anyone?

No i meant i have never ever found one that it has not worked (turning the ignition on) does your hazard switch work?

Yup, Hazard switch works perfectly.

As I say, it was the first thing my mate tried when I bought it.... in fact, before we'd even left the bloody garage forecourt!!! ....didnt work. I thought he was just talkin sihte!

As far as I'm aware, Vauxhall wised up to this problem in 1992 and fixed it, pretty much in the same way the How To details. Hence why some late-92 built cars have the fix from factory.

Mine was registered May 1992... so built early 92!

<shrug>

Just what I'd heard, for all I know it could be only the ones in that Spanish field which have had the fix lol

Is there any way to determine build date from the chassis number?

So at the end of production? Smart. lol

I'd imagine mine was made before they got to it and was sat around for a while. Most probable due to the amount of rust on it lol

Never applied a fix, mines a k plater and needed to be done. All the ones I've ever looked at it worked.

If the guy posting says it doesn't work then presumably it has an immobiliser fitted that is wired in a non standard way. The way installers fit the devices and the wiring they choose almost certainly means you can get the ignition on even without de-activating the immobiliser. So perhaps "hurrah for a crappy installer?" lol

flyin flea

No... when I purchased it, (bizarrely) it did not have an immobiliser. It had never had one fitted. The wiring had never been modified. The jump start hack has never worked on my May '92 SRi.

taboo alert..... taboo alert........

1. don't make crude jokes against anyone's mother

2. we don't actually advise on a public forum how to hotwire or break into a nova...

Sorry, no contact details.

Mow.....
1) if someone labelled as 'antagonist' makes a pointless remark.... then it only deserves an equivalent retort.
2) if, in 2010, anyone is dumb enough to own an Nova without any form of anti-theft device...... should they be driving said car?

mowgli

ff, i know that a paper bag has more security devices than a nova, but not adding to thieves knowledge is a small part of how to stop them getting nicked.

any theif who does not know about this hack.... is a siht theif... or maybe not even a theif at all!
Show me someone who doesnt know how to open a Ford Escort using a tennis ball....
i.e. its all very common knowledge.

you'd be surprised just how many people on here have had to straighten out their door tops because some tow rag hasn't worked out how easy it is

phazer

It's been common knowledge for a long time, even kids seem to know about the trick.

Also. given my article is available to the public and has been for some time it seems daft not to have an open discussion about it :thumb:
