hi iv git a 1400sr wid 85 miles and the head gaskets jus gone,a nd when i turn it over i feel a banging from the engine any ideas,

if the head gaskets gone you'll have no compression in one of the cylinders so the banging will be the piston just knocking about.

The engine will be running all lumpy and eratic - if it turns over at all.

Get it fixed asap. dont drive the car if you can - it'll just damage the engine.

If you know feck all about engines will set you back about ?300 (depending on where you go) for new head gasket, skim, labour, etc..

get a haynes manual, a tourqe wrench ,new cylinder head bolts, and a new head gasket mabye even an uprated one and follow the guide in that if you dont want to do this go to a gragare and get them to do it, and if it is your oil mayo like?

when i did my head i went to get gasket and bolts and they inly had gasket. I ended up using the old ones and it seems to be fine, that was back in Jan. But i don't thrash the car and it will be replaced again soon (Mike :)) so i'll get new ones then.

coz if the bolts break while tightening up ur screwed
