View Full Version : Early 20XE loom confusion

So I'm looking at the XE wiring guide and my loom is COMPLETELY different to this. In fact it looks more similar to my old 16SE loom.

Whole loom:

http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/Loom/Whole.JPG

The only plug inside is a green one with the following colours:
White
Blue/brown
Blue/yellow
Blue/white

http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/Loom/InsideGreen.JPG

Just before it enters the car via the grommet there's this brown dead-end plug? Looks like a RON plug or something?

http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/Loom/BrownUnknown.JPG

Another discrepancy to the diagram, I only have two earths on the rail area:

http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/Loom/Earths.JPG

Looking at the passenger side...........

http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/Loom/Half.JPG

There's a relay which I wasn't expecting:

http://iainel.co.uk/images/forums/Loom/RelayUnknown.JPG

And this multiplug that contains all the colours I expect to wire in to the car. if I was attacking this with no diagram I would be joining this plug to my car loom as it contains:
Thick red
Blue
Blue/red
Black/yellow
Green

This is my ECU:

So.... Since I don't have any of the right colours in the footwell, and there's no +ve kicking about anywhere, I assume I just wire up the big multiplug to my car loom using the normal colours?

Any help would be ace :d

yeah thats right.you will have to extend them to neaten it as thats what i had to do with mine
Just follow the colours in the diagram as its the same.I might have the male part for that plug somewhere if you want it??

oh btw that small plug is the diagnostic wires, and yes thats your ron plug, and your ecu is the correct one

Sweet nice one, made sense to use that plug but thought I'd better check as it's completely different to Paul's well known XE wiring diagram.

How do you use the RON plug then? It's just labelled A and B on either side.

Cool, see if you have the male side of the plug, that'd be good :) As I was trying to not cut the XE loom at all.

The ron plug just stays like that, you switch it round for different petrol RON's ie 98 or 95 i think it is,as when Astra Gte was around there was 4star and unleaded

Know which is which? I'd like to run it on higher octane fuel as it has higher compression.

That A and B plug is nothing do with Ron 95/98, its an emissions plug for different EU countries.
Leave it how it is.

Youve got a mega early loom which joined the car loom inside the engine bay like a nova gte, its only later cav/cally/mk3 astras that had in car loom plugs.
Another difference is your ignition live is black/yellow instead of just black

everything you need to know about RON lol

That A and B plug is nothing do with Ron 95/98, its an emissions plug for different EU countries.

thats incorrect according to that link,it says A is 95 and B is 98

The links wrong then ;)

There was a huge thread about it on Mig a few years back.
RON plugs have 95/98 etc either side.

Its something to do with reducing emissions for stricter EU countries.

XE's have knock sensors so have no need for switchable ron plugs like on old 8v's.

Where do you get the dash signal's from? Yes, by the look of it power would come through the multi plug, whereas my power is on a seperate wire straight onto the battery.

I used the original E16 plug and made a loom to join up the dash plugs

i didn't think fp was the engine code for early astra (etc) looms?

Andy

my astra gte had an fp

I'd make sure the fuel pump relay is in car, you dont want it getting wet! Thinking about it you cant, get it clipped up high where it will stay dry.

my astra gte had an fp

my ecu is FP, i thought it was PK but its defo FP ( 89 astra gte 20XE )

Cool all sounds right then. Nice one guys.

Found the other half of that plug in my "bag o' crap" and the standard wires reach in the car, so just need to solder them up to the car. Woo!

Use the gte in car loom to link it in the bay here, the astra gte loom joined in the bay not in the footwell. The colours are different too, i made a thread about it quite awhile ago.

Thick blue is the ignition live (i think, cant remember now)

Dont connect it to the thin blue for the temp reading lol

yeah all the colours are ****, im sure mine had a pink wire for the temp lol

This thread should help you, thanks to the simps

Ok cool, well I've used the male part off the donor car so my colours should match up on the plug itself.

I remember on my old 16SE loom the fuel pump wire was blue so I'm prepared for the odd one being non-standard colours!

Same as my loom. Early Astra GTE. I connected mine by using the round plug. But apparently thats not the done thing LMFAO!!! Still works, runs, drives ETC.

You seem to have most of your questions answered TBH!!

Iain
31-10-10, 02:15 PM
Yeah the big round plug contains other stuff too that we use off the Nova loom I think?

I am busy extending the wires on my male side of the plug for use in the car loom. What confuses me is there's a red with blue trace and a blue with red trace, any ideas what the non-fuel-pump one could be?

Benn
31-10-10, 04:12 PM
Red/blue is alt i'm sure?

Andy
31-10-10, 06:05 PM
the non fuel pump one is the speed sensor-not used

Iain

Sweet cheers. Benn the alternator is blue/white and it's on the car loom...?

Pass then, get a Astra haynes man then.. Have all the colours in there.

Sloth

i have the astra haynes ill try to load a diag. fyi, the ron plug on an xe does sweet f.a, as the knock sensor controls the fuel differences. its there to look pretty. ive had 2 of these looms now, any q's just ask.
