View Full Version : Converting XE block to LET
When people do this why do they drill the block for oil return, would it not just be easier to return it to the sump?
it is probably an ease of manufacture thing from gm, as they can fit all the turbo gubbins on then get at the sump separately.
i'm sure brazing a return onto the sump will be fine, if you are converting one

just because copying what was done as standard seems sense to people but wont effect it in any way, just taking off the sump may be annoying but how often do you plan on doing that?
Oil return needs to be above the oil level in the sump, not any extra work putting it in the block.

from what i read on here, quite often......;)
The return is too low in the sump really, oil will run back up it as it moves around in the sump.
Hence why its in the block.
But ive seen the return fitted to the highest bit of the sump before, and it was fine.
