Its about an extra £500 to get my insurance fully comp, 19, good postcode no ncb and In10. Few people have told me one thing and others have said the next.. can anyone on here help.. wondering if with fully comp insurance i can drive any car ? do i just add them to the policy at no extra cost, or will it cost more etc, or do i just need to be a named driver.. thanks

Depends on the insurance company, at your age i doubt it.

Normally your only 3rd party on the other car, and that car has to be insured by the owner.

only if it says so on your insurance cert,

worst case phone your insurer :)

Do you think its a bit of a long shot then ? Iv seen a 5 gt turbo i like and was thinking of insuring it alongside a fully comp 1200 nova. think it might be a bit too much hassle

I'l shop around, i know people who drive there dads cars etc cause theyre insured fully comp but the other car has insurance too, got pulled in one and my mate just showed "comprehensive" on his cover sheet and we were let on our way soon after..

You can't use it to drive another of your own cars, it has to be registered by someone else and also insured by that person as well.

That wouldnt work unless somebody else owned the r5 aswell as being insured on it.

Its ment to be so you cant do that, and its why people under 21/25 struggle to get it.

Too slow :(

Best thing to do, find something cheap and build up ncb etc.

mk2 golf 1300 or 1200 corsa b im thinkin..
want a nova but i think if i spend minimum on a rotbox that'd most likely cause a lot of stress and headaches i wouldnt want to spend the 3/3.5k il have saved by then on another

Just looked and corsa insurance is sky high, fook that.
Weirdly though, comprehensive has just become cheaper than tpf&t for me :S

Definately the corsa, those 1300 engines in the mk2 golfs are dogsh1t

Nothing is cheap to insure, its just a case of finding what is the cheapest out of the cars you can afford to buy.

Fully comp is sometimes cheaper, or there isnt much differance between that and tpft.

Fully comp used to be a good but higher, now its a fair bit lower.
Iv narrowed it down to a few cars in budget for insurance and cost of car, just going to find the right one and buy it and worry about insurance after.
corsas are still staying sky high though, as are saxos (not that i want one just checked) so its just got the "boy racer" stereotype with insurers im guessing ?

mk3 (mk2f) polo 1.0 - 1.3
mk2 golf 1300
nova 1200 or 1.3 sr
1.1 mk3 fiesta rs turbo rep if i can find one
couple more..

MK3 Polo GT. Usually cheap to insure and certainly go very very well for a 1.3!

Lupo 1.7 sdi.... dog turd slow but a bazillion mpg and nearly free tax. Should be cheapenough to insure. Plus Lupos dont seem to be depreciating so you wont lose cash on the purchase

Dont know it mate, red one on 88k, its on bbs so im guessing the ones that came on the mk2 gti golf standard at the price it is, no pics of it either but gotta be worth a look

My mates was red with black BBS. 13's I think. Had a 4 branch fitted and a new exhaust just before he sold it £300's worth. Was a awesome car, very very quick to say the least. That's if it's the same one anyway.

Not a bad idea, for the money though i'd buy a Nova.
i've got my child savings coming, want to add an extra 1k + and get a minter. dont want to buy a cheap nova for £600 cause i think itd be a shed and put me off spending my savings and more on another. Need something with atleast 8 months mot too for a few reasons (mainly money/insurance issues, gives me enough time to save to put it through a test)

Sounds very similar, do you know the mileage ? ad didnt say anything about a 4 branch etc.. but tbh the owner didnt sound like he knew a lot about it, old bloke so guessing just a runabout, but in a way that's a bonus

Fully comp used to be a good but higher, now its a fair bit lower.
Reason being is people usually insure junk worth £200 on TPF&T, so its better for the insurance company if that goes fully comp as usually FC carries a voluntary excess AND compulsory, where as TPF&T is usually just compulsory. So with FC they will just write your car off and you get £less-than-nothing as your excess more than covers the value of your vehicle.

You'd probably find a FC policy with £0 voluntary excess would still be massively more expensive than a TPF&T policy, as it was many years ago.

My Nova is TPF&T, as in insurance terms - as with any other nova that doesn't have agreed value - its only worth £100 max lol
