..... I know they rot everywhere, but my brothers just bought one and i asked him to sell it to me as he knows how much i love them and he said he will sell it to me for what he payed which was cheap imo. Before i get my heart over thinking head on, few questions. What are these like for getting parts for like servicing etc. is there many common problems (except rust) that i should know/ look out for. What you think? Its got a 1300 in it with an 'uprated carb' on it

Here it is (in its prime i think) Its in much tattier condition now apparently, but i am going to look at it at the weekend and hopefully come away with the v5 :d

I would buy it..

Like you said, rust was the main issue..

Engines, tranmissions, etc were pretty much bulletproof..

Front springs tended to break a lot..

Interiors wore very well and usually still look okay..

Service parts you will have no problems with and I would guess they'll be cheap..

Panels, etc? Have a look over at the owners club :-)

Looks like a worthy project..

Do it!

£400 is a good price bearing in mind how rare these things appear to be now..

Was one on RR last week for 150 and I think it went almost instantly..

Personally I like the saloons rather than the hatches..

Havent got a drive to keep the chevette or nova on, and cant afford to keep both tbh, if i could i would

If you have space for them, two cars is the way to go. Then you'll have something to drive wheil you play around with or need to fix the other. Its not like a Nova is an expensive car to keep - unless you want it to be.

Chevette, for the retro/rarity/challenge factor..

Shame you can't keep both tho...

Theres a red 2 door saloon on a y plate that lives near me - a little old lady potters about in it occasionally - i so want that.

Anyway less of this can't afford it, cars are there to bankrupt you - it's the sole purpose.....

look on retro rides, the thread is on there, look in the for sale section, and find his thread was bumped a few days ago i think.

and :O 400 thats good.

and IMO, keep the chevette, they are jumping in price and popularity, and this shows from the one on RR that went in a day or so.

do itttttt.

The chevette will be a good investment in time (restored or not)..

Look at the way classics are soaring in price (especially at auction)..

Minis.. Thousands of them but you still pay a wedge for a pile of rust if it's the right age, model, etc..

Find a way to keep both!

^^^^

he speaks sense,

what spec is your nova, if its anything other then an SR, GTE or GSI, then there is no question, get rid.

novas are going up, but not base models that much

RWD classic stuff is going up what ever the weather.

Connor

Either way it will be staying in zee family for abit and with my brother on lookout for his own place, sure he will sell it too me for a bloody good price 6months or a year or maybe a couple of years down the line, when i have left uni and in full time work it should be fine

Exactly..

Lada Rivas are now so rare they are set to go thru the sky in the near future..

Cars your Grandad drove, laughable not so long ago, are now so rare that they are often the most desirable..

Do you think people who may daft money for barn finds at auction, actually use them?

Rarely I would say..

A rare classic is money in the bank..

Look after that Chev!

You have to keep the nova as well as Mr Connor. You need to have at least one 'normal' car if you are going to own a 'grandad' car like that chevette! Thats not me slagging it off, because I like it too, but you'll get sick off explaining to every non car person why you drive an old mans car! trust me, Ive got a brown nova saloon! lol

When it's restored, the Chevette will do its own explaining!

Keep the factory colour..

lol I know exactly what you mean there - although I don't explain why I drive an old car - i'm just honest when I say that new cars don't do anything for me..... (well new cars I could afford anyway lol)

Also I quite like not looking like everyone else in the carpark - at work I must be the only person with a car over 10 yrs old.... :d

I can vouch for that, when driving it back (before the head gasket popped lol ) and we got stuck in that traffic jam, some of the looks I got were interesting, one couple seemed amazed by it. Shame it had to go, wonder if that guy who bought it has a project thread anywhere.
