View Full Version : Steve's Corsa Sport (20XE)
Thought i'd put up a page on it, bought as a non runner which I was told might be the fuel pump, after a strip down turns out the head gasket was rather knackered!! lol
The previous owner had the cam belt changed (apparently) but didnt have it tentioned and ended up wrecking the valves, clearly he didnt change the head gasket while it was apart.
Anyway, a few pics:

Thats about it for now, ive taken the front wing into work to have a small repair done and colour code the cam belt and rocker covers, also picked up a set of spax coilovers to go on :thumb:
Not bad, Must be something about corsa's on Lenso RS5 wheels, My sport had them on too lol
Post 97 it, Depo style lights, be coolies.
I like them, sick of seeing corsas with slabs or speedlines etc.. not too clued up on the differences yet, but I know its the last of the early shape without the v-grille, can't stand them.
Post 97: Debadged grill, depo style headlights.

Another nova owner converted :P
Hmm think I prefer it the way it is, maybe change the lights at some point, not feeling that grille though.
Yeah, Those lights are so easy to make. Lucas ones (Standard are valeo), or Depo clear ones, oven for 5mins, then split the glass off the back bit, pull out the centre bit, paint it, reseal, Done lol.
She runs!! After doing the headgasket over the last couple of weekends we went to crank her over last night but the battery was goosed, so we bump started her and she ran (badly) and cut out and would't restart. Went out today and got a new battery, put in some fresh fuel and first turn of the key, away she went! Still needs the rear brakes adjusting and then its mot time :D
Nice one steve did it not bend any valves when the belt slipped?
Looks a nice one anyway.
eres my g/fs corsa sri

Nice corsa sport bet that shifts with that engine in.

Yeah apparently it did bend some/most of the valves which he replaced, but he can't have done the headgasket as it looked mullered and the headbolts weren't even torqued down! Starts up and drives fine now though, i'll get some money together and get it mot'd soon, but off to amsterdam at the weekend so i'll probably be skint lol
*pie* thats a nice colour for a corsa :thumb:
cheers steve :thumb:
hope you get her mot'd
Done a few colour coding bits, needs the brakes doing and a few silly jobs and i'll get it mot'd.

Went to the breakers for a few trim bits and found these so had to buy them lol

looks ok that matey i wouldnt mind a corsa b with a xe to thrash lol
MOT booked for 14:30 tomorrow :d
Haven't seen this before, good to see you've got a vauxhall again steve!
I need good luck lol, yeah john I did wanna stray too far from novas, a viva/manta had been an idea for a while but I don't like long term projects.
Brakes definitely need doing on the corsa, anyone know why most redtop corsas have such bad brakes?
Corsa brakes are preety **** anyway lol
What size has it got?
Its got 256mm brakes with ebc/green stuff crap :/ maybe they just need bleeding but the pedal is nearly on the floor before they work.
Bleed them up yeah, Maybe worth checking the rear cylinders too. Also, see if you can adjust the rear brake adjuster, as its lowered.
Its just had new rear shoes apparently, and the handbrake is well high, gonna have a go tomorrow but still gotta get a new hazard switch from the breakers first.
Failed the mot yesterday, handbrake needs adjusting which I knew about, but can't someone clue me up this, still logged as a 1.4 which i'm going to change but the tester gave it a 'cat equipped' emissions test which it quite clearly failed by a long way!! I was told they test it on which is the oldest, that being the engine as its a non cat engine.
He said he tested it that way as its logged as a 1.4 still, is there a way around it? As its had the conversion done for 3 years without a cat and not had any problems.
Also, it ran dangerously hot all the way down to the test centre, considering it was a cold day and I had the heating on full the gauge didnt come down, nearly overheated and when I got home I found oil had spewed out of somewhere! Is it more likely to be a naff water pump or blocked rad? Just changed the coolant the other day.
+rep for keeping it Pre97
Did you prove to him that the engine is older than 92? If not it will need a cat. Even if you change the logbook i doubt it would matter.
Id check for circulation, if its circulating its the rad. Depending how its plumbed up you should get a constant flow through the left top header tank pipe.
I told him its a non cat engine but he said its because the car requires a cat test, not the engine, everyone seems to say something different!!
That's what I fault, maybe he's just being picky cos it failed on loads of things lol
I'd fix the other things, go back and show him the date on the cam cap under the oil cap, presuming it shows pre 92 anyway.
Ran the engine up and only the left hand rad hose is getting hot so gonna replace the rad and fan switch as that doesnt work, get the lower ball joint and do that in the week, then take it elsewhere for an MOT and get them to adjust up the rear brakes, should be all good after that.
Skint lol, gonna get cambelt, waterpump and rear brakes sorted in the new year and get it on the road, finally.
Cambelt and water pump done, old one looked ok and spun freely but now the water is actually getting round.
Other than that its been a nightmare, changed the bottom ball joint but when tightening it the thread stripped so now it needs persuading off. The handbrake that was going to get adjusted decided to round off the locking wheel nut when I tried taking the wheel off and think it needs a cv joint.
On the plus side the interior is now de-chavved, picked up new front seats late spec sport door cards, stripped out the rear and replaced all the blue aerosoled plastics :wtf:

oh yer by the way you can buy locking wheels nut remover tools on ebay
Cheers mate, yeah i know but can't be arsed to wait for it to be delivered, bougght a tap and die set earlier as well as an extractor set so gonna get the ba$tard$ off tomorrow!
Got pretty much everything I need now, interior has been de-chavved, just needs that MOT slip lol

Are you going to bring it to billing/pvs? Also what suspension are you running mate?
Theres a vauxhall/opel meet at the ace cafe in feb or march which I wanna take it to. Yeah it'll be at some shows this year, really wanna do the belgium opel show whatever its called lol
Its lowered on bilsteins black shocks and some springs but got spax coilovers to go on.
Will the ecu not fit behind the kickpanel steve?

'Da **** is the ECU doing there! lol
Obviously been taking advise off Sloth on Allcorsa lol
Wheres the love for the interior parts mate?
and lol at that ecu i never knew it was mounted up there :wtf:
Not bothered moving the ecu yet, no idea why its there but im just sorting my way through the long list of things it needs doing. Thankfully its only a small list now lol
Oh yeah, much love to tom for his corsa supplies, really appreciate it mate, it's definitely transformed that chavved up interior.
Still got the chrome pedals to remove :wtf:
wont be long untill its on the road hopefully.
stick some black griptape over the chrome pedals mate, hides the chrome and functional at the same time.
Swiped some pedal rubbers from the breakers last time I was there, were a pain to get off, besides the wheels that will be the last chav item to remove.
The carbon fibre effect gearknob and blue dash plastics are a distant memory lol
Nah won't be long now mate :d
Latest update, after doing an oil change the sump decided to leak, and after tightening it the sump cracked so ive just got a replacement one.
Also had some issues when we changed the cv boot, we physically couldnt get the driveshaft back in the cv joint on the gearbox end. It went most of the way but not far enough for the clip to lock in. Tried persuading it but that didnt work and we couldnt get the cv out of the box to do it that way. Any thoughts? Other than to scrap it??
tried turning the shaft/ cv join as you push it in?
Yeah we tried that mate, tried tapping it in as well but it wouldn't go.
Sumps been changed and just had the the driveshafts out for new cv boots, should be in for the mot anytime now :d

Did you manage to get the driveshaft clip to lock into place??
Nah man, a mechanic I know came to check it out and he couldnt figure it out either, must be the wrong clip, either way he's taken it away to look at plus its having new boots fitted, once thats done and the sumps been torqued its mot time again :D
Late update, no internet access but finally online. Got it through the mot and had it on the road for 3 weeks, just colour coded the rocker cover today bbut still got a few small jobs to do.
Well happy with the coilovers, so much better than uprated shocks and springs.
Forgot about this, How does it compare to the Nova?
It is quicker for sure, just the way it delivers the power though, dunno if it is just the bigger driveshafts but it gets the power down alot better and with alot less torque steer.

Quicker? Are you sure, I was quite suprised the difference that extra weight made, when I converted a Corsa Sport a few years ago - quite a bit slower.
Although, they do handle the power a lot better - almost like it rolled out of teh factory...
