Having some trouble with gear changes on a corsa-b, changing down the box it often doesn't seem to want to go into gear and won't go in until you come off the clutch and on again, any ideas? As far as I know it's a standard box and linkage. Thanks

Checked the gearbox oil level? Sounds like a buggerd box though tbf.

Mine struggles to go into 2nd when coming down the box, but not surprising for the miles its done lol.

Nah i'll check that though, could it be anything to do with the linkage? Thanks.

I doubt it, if it goes in ok once you have lifted the clutch and gone back down.

If it is reluctant to change down to 2nd, i.e. needs to be slow, and 1st is about impossible to get until nearly stationary, seems pretty normal to me with my F10 gearboxeas in the nova's;)

There's a service bulletin for F13 F15 and F17 transmissions relating to difficulty in selecting 1st & 2nd gear.

Hope this helps:
---------------------------
In case of complaint the following procedure will apply:

F13 - transmission:

Up to MY 97, synchro-rings and gears have to be replaced.
From MY 98, only the gears are to be replaced.
F15 - transmission:

Replace mainshaft, synchro-rings and 1. - 2. gearwheels.

F17 - transmission:

Up to MY98 only the mainshaft is to be replaced.

For all above transmissions the following oil should be used:
Cat.-/Part-Nr.: 19 40 764 / 90 540 998
The modified parts are not available through P&A.

Since the parts are available in limited numbers only, it
should be ensured that the request for parts is issud in cases
of extreme customer complaint. In order to establish the
correct relationship between mainshaft and transmission, it
is essential to supply the full transmission-type number
(i.e. A32971 F15 W419)

---------------

There is another bulletin which relates to difficulty engaging gears and clutch release. Which is that some halfwit didn't lubricate the input shaft splines properly at assembly.

Is your clutch clearing properly?

More symptoms help diagnosis.

Might have to try and find another box! I've tried holding the gear-stick in the position where it won't go in and turning the ignition off and it doesn't change anything, I guess that rules out clutch issues??

Thanks!

In that case, check the linkage, more to the point make sure that nothing is getting in the way of the linkage near the gearbox.
