View Full Version : Insuring a 1.6
Okay getting rather bored of a 1.2 (had it for near 2 years) and really wanting to upgrade to a 1.6 8v (March time next year)
Im 20
2 yrs no claims
0 points
Goodish postcode,
Anyone recently got a quote for one with similar preferences and roughly how much?
Just dont wanna put this 1.6 in and realise i cant afford to insure it
Just need a rough estimate
The last time I insured my white one it was about £450 with HIC. 1.6 8v conversion, rollcage, suspension mods, etc. Was probably 21/22.
Just checked some docs and it was about £600 in the first year I insured it. So probably about 20 years old then.

id say you will be ble to insure it fine dude.. when i was 18 i had a 1.2 SX nova sold that for a Gsi and insurance wasnt much different and that was with 1 or even no ncd.. best to call up afew places and see whats the best they can do for you..
T.N
I got a quote at pv at the flux stand and they said 1800 lol
I'm hoping for the 1000-1200 mark as that means it doesnt increase much from now
And tommy only thing is thats its not a gsi, its a 1.2 with a 1.6 engine fitted, and iirc its cheaper to insure a gsi than a 1.2 that been fitted with one for some reason, or that may just be one of those stories i dreampt lol

Are you doing internet quotes? or ringing people up, explain that its had a 1.6 nova gsi engine fitted and you want to insure it as a nova gsi replica doubt it would be more than £1500
Only spoke to flux, and was gutted when they said 1800 lol, he didnt even write nothing down though and just said what he thought it may be like.
Looks like i will be making some phone calls soon. 1500 isnt bad at all tbh
*runs off excited

Without being rude it's almost pointless asking what others pay, they are not you and will have different risk profiles.
I'd imagine its going to be cheaper to insure a "std" car rather than a car converted to match the std car...
Perhaps look at selling up and buying a gsi?
as stuart says i would buy a standard gsi to replace yours if you want the cheaper insurance quote.

Yea good point, i know its not going to be bang on, just wondered what people have payed previously

I would but imo all gsi's for sale are either crap or serious $$$$
And i would rather spend the money buying like a nice e36 318 for the money you would pay for a half decent gsi (imo)
buy a corsa sport 1.6 job done.

Ewwwwwwwwwww (imo) lol
it will be cheaper ill bet, or try a tigra....
Rather drive my nova as a 1.2 tbh
There is nowt wrong with my 1.2 and i can live with it.
Its just after 2 years, just fancy my nova having a little poke to it
Not bothered if i cant get cheap enough insurance
I did a 5 year stretch in my 1.2 carbed nova :) means to an end and all that :)
haha i did a year in a 1L nova and had about 5 engines lol
Then went to 1.6 for a month
Now driving a Let nova :p

Same. Then got out of the 55bhp Nova and got into the 60bp-per-wheel Celica lol Mind you, it did mean I could insure it for a sensible price.

Jeebus. First purple shoes, now a tigra?! You need to man up!
Yeah I went for a lardy assed 3.0 V6 omega as the change from a nova :) silly fun
huh, i like tigras..... :(
