K&N crankcase breather filter

I have just fitted my K&N bolt on filter following the guide on this site. it mensoins that i could fit a K&N crankcase breather filter on to the bigger pipe of the two.
what difference does this make
and will it harm the engine if i dont have one?

dosent serve any purpose other than looking good

point your pipe at the floor and save ?20

eventually they block up with oil and explode anyway

like TWO of mine have as i have fortgotten to clean them both out :evil:
