gear ratio advice

im racing the oval next season in a corsa with the 1.4sr engine and carb basicly standard ( due to the rules )
im thinking of running the 2.21 ratio cluster but also thinking of 4.18 or 4.19 but i do have a 4,29 will that be better

There are so many variables you will just need to find out for yourself. with a 2.21 and a 4.9 you could be revving the hell out your engine and everyone going past you, dont forget all the torque on standard engines is in the middle of the range not at the top. I'd start with a std cluster and 3.9 diff and go from there.

yes i agree but running the longest second gear possible and a small final drive will help the engine rev up alot faster which is what im aiming for but i think the best way will be to try and get on some test days and keep swapping out my final drive, like you say so many combinations you could have

How about a 4.53:1 and use 3rd?
