How can i tell which gearbox is in my nova?

as you look down on the box in the car its stamped near where the linkage enters the casing. will say F10 or F13 etc :wink:

It says F10 is that right for a 1.0L

yep.

all cars up until 1.6 have F10

1.6 has F13 etc etc

if it has 4 gears then its defo an F10.
if its close range then its F13.
If neither of the above its probably an F10/5
unless if its a C14SE it could be a F13 (1.4 litre only)

yep the haynes is corect

right just to throw everybody completely off and i still havent figured this out yet but.....

looked on my gearbox yesterday and it says f10 :o

bearing in mind its an sri (bigger clutch/flywheel) i have no idea what the hell is goin on :s

and its a std starter and the starter is in its usual place as iv had the gearbox off b4 :s

errm - well i've bored everyone to death about this before but Haynes isnt correct throughout. Boxes with F10 and F13 are mixed and matched about - they can be 4 or 5 speed and can be wide or close ratio with different final drive ratios. In particular the 1.6's ive had apart havent had the close ratio clusters in that haynes says they should nor the fianl drives quoted

haynes also says engines under 1.6 have come with an f13 box - thats rubbish also

i'm happy with my mk2 1.4sr box which has never been opened and complyes to the gearbox code

i was told if they were sprayed silver :? mines silver!
