i have just bought a 90 gsi cavalier redtop engine with no loom.i just want to confirm im right in saying its a dizzy engine.

there is also pics of the ecu(gl)i got with the engine... i am lead to believe its a MONTRONIC M2.5

i have won a loom on ebay. the guy has different looms the really early one without the lambda and the early one with the lambda too....apparently these will fit the m2.5 and work perfectly!!

heres the loom i won http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-C20XE-Redtop-Dizzy-type-Wiring-loom-Nova-Corsa-/270647647910?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3f03db5ea6#ht_500wt_1156

the guy i bought the engine from said it definatly didnt have a lambda sensor as it was a straight thru exhaust

now a source has told me all m2.5 looms have lambda, its the early astra looms that dont and mine needs a lambda to run as its an m2.5 engine and not the astra.

please give me your opinion

Check the engine code if it starts 20XE it's shouldn't have a lambda, the red cap with the leads is your dizzy, iirc dizzy engines have no lambda or knock sensor.

Wrong, I've had a dizzy drive xe with both lambda and knock. I'm not too up with my engine ecu codes, sorry i can't be of much help there. is there a plug on the loom for the lambda?

John an early 20XE has no lamda no cat no knock sensor as is pre emission rules, I have that engine myself it runs a PK ecu

Dizzy (red cap) XE here with a lambda and knock sensor.

Looking at your pics, yes, yours is a dizzy engine.

Ahh yes but the late dizzy xe ran a lambda, and knock, as i've already posted.:)

Edit, the ecu code on mine was gy. Had lambda and knock.

aye thats the right loom you have bought.

tis why I said 20XE and not C20XE

bungalow, FP sounds better than fk to me lol, think I got that bit wrong, and my XE came from a 1989 F reg astra gte.

jeez. fp is a astra mk2 non lambda. gl is a lambda code, checked on epc, so the guy dean got it from prob had it unplugged.

I have an early dizzy XE running a lambda, not sure about the knock though, and its running an FX code ECU atm

Am i right in thinking that it doesn't really matter what loom/ecu you use as long as they match, as the engine doesn't know if it should have a lambda etc or not..

some sensors have different value ranges so it can make it run funny.

look in my post in articles about the motronic system, it explains the difference between the early ML4.1 xe's and the M2.5's

a few mixed opinions there, So will this loom work or not?? and if my ecu is lambda does that mean ill have to fit a lambda sensor into my exhaust?

Ideally yes, but it will run without one, but the fuelling will out...

wat bout this loom http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-RED-TOP-XE-WIRING-LOOM-DIZZY-LESS-SYSTEM-/120635476089?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c166f4879

it came off a pt ecu...is pt lambda like the gl??

thats a dizzy-less one, it wont fit. its for the later coil pack loom

like i said gl is a lambda code ecu, the one in the pic in the first ebay listing you posted is the right one, i can see the lambda connector on it.

ok so i buy the otha loom it will work, can i fit a lambda if its needed???

Sloth

you need a lambda loom to run a lambda sensor, on the non lambda ones its not in the wiring.

So this is the right one and it has lambda wiring??
