As Paul has got one, i'll have a naughty boys thread.

What are the implications insurance wise for this offence?

Overtaking while crossing a solid white line.
(Contravening solid white lines?)

3 points and a £60 fine!
Not sure of the offence code though!

if you are overtaking a slow vehicle capable of less than 20mph, ie milk float, tractor, or a stationary vehicle, then you are legal. i'm guessing careless..

It was on the A75, massive cue of traffic behind me off the ferry, car in front fluctuating from 20-50mph.

The audi that did a 5car overtake over solid whites before me didnt get pulled however!

trouble is that you'll lose more money by going to court to argue it out...

what paperwork have you got from the rozzers?

also, your car doesn't exist..cough cough...

I'd need the offence code to answer from Sky's perspective.

I got stopped for it before but just got a warning as the copper was 300yards infront of me parked up just as it started i pulled in so it was borderline anyway but im pretty sure he said it was careless driving

MS60 or MW10 sounds more likely??

This is the rule in the highway code

129

Double white lines where the line nearest you is solid. This means you MUST NOT cross or straddle it unless it is safe and you need to enter adjoining premises or a side road. You may cross the line if necessary, provided the road is clear, to pass a stationary vehicle, or overtake a pedal cycle, horse or road maintenance vehicle, if they are travelling at 10 mph (16 km/h) or less.

Not much help otherwise, Sorry

Ive just read TS20 somewhere else!

Royston
20-10-10, 05:40 PM
Offence is from above

TS20 Failing to comply with double white lines, 3points

Could be worse;)

Stoo

Oh i know that.
I'm not complaining, technically i'm bang to rights.

I just wanted to know the endorsement, and insurance implication

pity you weren't driving a bus.... according to the driver who hit me in leicester last year, the white lines don't apply for buses

Nay, the only moving vehicle you can cross or straddle double whites to pass is a "road maintenance vehicle when in use" thats moving at <=10mph. Or a pushbike or horse, again both of which have to be going <=10mph.

Cross the double whites to overtake a milkfloat or tractor whilst its moving - no matter the speed - and thats an offence!

A75...the stretch from stranrear to castle douglas or further? police would do you for breathing fresh air down here, bit off the subject but drive through castle douglas one night soon and you wont see a soul out cause the police have done them all! a golf infront of me doing 110mph (a friend) and me behing doing 73 in the td...we both get caught, guess who is the one that gets caught....and no its not a happy ending!

Most insuers would view this as a minor offence so the insurance implications are not severe. Of course it can depend on the insurer.

My TS10 (contravening traffic signal) has affected my insurance by more than I expected TBH! It's over 3 years old now and was only 3 points and a £60 fine.

Again (not being at all rude) what has this got to do with this thread?

We (Sky) historically specialise in jap imports.. 5/10 at a guess are registered incorrectly with the DVLA.. eg.. the DC5 Integra, the is no insurer code for it so it doesn't show up up on UK insurer's systems.. another example, Mk1 Mr2 Supercharger, not recognised on any UK database.

As far as imports go, never rely on the reg number getting the details correct and it is down to the owner to make sure the car is insured correctly.

I've seen some really weird ones.. eg enter a reg number from an import Mazda Mx5 and it brings up a Toyota RAV4..

Celica owners seem to have issues with this sometimes too!

I recall reading many moons ago how some ST205 owner was well impressed with his cheap insurance as the car was coming up as an ST - fine, til you get nobbled for invalid (read: no) insurance lol

Ahh I see, sorry, us insurance people have no sense of humour lol

Hope you didn't take my questions the wrong way, I was genuinely confused.. doesn't take much!

Cheers

The crossing white line offence? I've already answered that one. It is impossible to answer specicially, as it depends on the policy underwriter.

in scotland a few years back, a truck was pulled by the police for holding up the traffic on a single carriageway road..... he was doing 40mph, the legal maximum for a single carriageway road, the cops tried to book him..... he got an article printed in the Commercial Motor Mag...

Generally?

Sorry Stoo, not being difficult but I have been as specific as I can be.. remember that we are a broker so it would depend on the policy underwriter.
