View Full Version : Poxy Broadband
As I type this I'm running at a hooooooge 284kps download and 380kbps upload. It might be the other way round, hell does it matter I'm not even getting half a meg!
I'm with BT on one of their super 18month deals I'm now on month four.
It's only been the last two weeks or so but I can't watch the Iplayer, I have to wait for youtube to download the full song before playingit otherwsie it catches up and the song stops half way through.
What pisses me off is the acceptable range is 100kbps - 500kbps but I was told speeds of up to 2.5mb. All I want really is to have it around 1mb that would be dandy.
Anyhow the nice Indian chap has told me he will log a call with the exchange people and see what they can do. Is he just fobbing me off.
Any good advice? I can get BT Infinity but am loathed to pay more for something I will not get the full benefits of :thumb:

BT suck. End of! I couldnt wait to bin them off in favour of Virgin. You may well have to keep on at them. Do you know if they are doing the FTC (fibre to cabinet) work in your area at the mo? That may well sort your speed out.

That'll be "up to" 10mb. I was on thier 8mb package. Averaged around 2mb.

Infinity, looking at BT's website may well be the FTC rollout they are doing.

This is because, the advertised speed is almost always in kilobits (KB/8 =Kb) and your PC measures everything in a more sensible kiloBytes
give your pc a full cleanup, wipe out the cookies you don't use, clean up the disc, & play with the speedup settings if it is vista... it all helps.
^ but will make sod all difference if the line speed is restricting it, which in this case it appears to be.
Whats your distance from the exchange, and what exchange is it? In fact, go look on samknows.com (or .co.uk) and it should list info about your exchange.
For a <1mbps speed, you're looking at being either >8k from the exchange (i.e. way out in the sticks!), or on a very old, very crappy line lol
Orrrrrr your ISP might have slapped you back to an ADSL1 connection. My old ISP did that to me
