Just for general info really but how much would it cost to get a car from America or anywhere abroad ruffly cost?

Say an American car was $6000 what would the total price be to get it in the uk?

1500 for transport from the states and then import tax once it gets here.

I thought it would be about that... What's the import tax? How much is that, does it go on the value of the car??

Yes I believe it does, then in if i'm not mistaken there's VAT at well:mad:

I think you can look up the import duty rates on HMRC website

Also, ro-ro = no no. Container costs more but is worth the extra.

That's the way I would do it.

Quite. Cheap doesn't always equal good. Unless you're getting something special, it would probably work out cheaper to buy in the UK (or EU). Not sure if its still the case, but til recently it worked out cheaper to buy Yankee Mustangs in the UK and Europe than it did to import one from the US.

Plus boats sink. Next thing you know you'll see a wreckage in the news and some dorset farmer is wheelspinning your new wheels up the beach and off to his farm lol

I had seen mustangs at £30K here and they are only £15k in the states... you could get one here for about £25K all in iirc.

there is always loads of these threads on other forums.

there is of course the import gubbins/money.

then you have to have the V5 equilivant from the states, and someone willing to drop it off at the port at their end.
then once its here, you have to have a VIC check, MOT, TAX, and apply for a V5. but i think some people have been having troubles. ill hunt out some links.

Couple years ago. Unless you were looking at the likes of GT350s or 500s, you could get a decent 289 for about £5-8k in the UK, where as in the US they were going for $15k lol

Seems prices have gone up now though. Damnit

My mate ships us campers over all the time, he buys them in the states for roughly $30k pays about $5k for shipping tax and registering etc and then sales them for £50k.

He flies to the us and buys two him and his mrs drive them to the docks then check them on then fly home and wait. Not a bad life!
