Hi,

Have contacted a few people directly. But as a general discussion and request for advice...

...I have an E-reg Nova 1.3 SR which is fairly standard, except for a full stainless-steel exhaust system (including 4-into-1 manifold). Being a purveyor of all things concourse, I want to replace this with a standard system, also the system is too noisy for me. Note: it is not illegal or noisy by most peoples standards, just by my standards it does not suit my requirements, especially when sat at 70-mph on the motorway.

1. What is a full stainless system (including the manifold) worth to sell on?
2. Do all Nova's of the 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 carb variety have the same exhaust system and manifold?
3. Is there much to be lost in performance/economy/running gong from a stainless to standard system?

Thanks in advance for your comments,
Harvey

To be honest losing the exhaust manifold you will probably feel its better low down the rpm range as the long primarys are designed for "power" and because of that they lose some right down low so if you want a better feel then a standard manifold is your best option.

replacing the stainless for a standard will only see you lose around 5bhp imo (thats if it was even setup for that exhaust), not worth worrying about if you want it standard again.

David.

Hi David,

That makes sense as it it is a little flat-footed below 3000 rpm, but goes and goes above that. Its not rough or anything low down, but it does struggle a little when cold on tick-over. Then again I am used to 251 lb/ft at 2000 rpm ;-)

I assume all the manifolds are the same for the 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 carb engines?

Thanks,
Harvey

I think they are mate but i can't be 100% as i haven't had much to do with small blocks in a good while.

no, the 1.2 is a 4:1 thing and rubbish, you need the 1300/1400 one. it is also the same manifold on mk1/2 astras. you can get the downpipe from any exhaust place.

Thanks fior the replies.

How do I tell the difference between the 1.2 and 1.3 manifold then?

the 1.2 is male & the 1.3 is female.....

(the 1.2 only has one hole in the bottom)

there are 2 types of the 4-2-1 cast manifold, a short one and a long one. the short 1 is found on Nova's the long ones on 1.6, 1/4 SRI and also 1300 astras.

WRONG.....

the 1.4/1.6 mpi is completely different to the 1.3 one. they will both fit on, but they fit completely different shaped downpipes.

the 1.3 astra & nova was the same. i used an astra one with a 1300 nova downpipe & then the whole rear section of the 1200 nova one was the same as the 1.3 & 1.4.

Ive also done this but with a belmont 1300 engine

So basically I need a Nova/Astra 1.3 exhaust manifold or a 1.4 carb Nova exhaust manifold. i will tell because it is a four into two.

Thank you,
Harvey
