Just had my first de-icing run this winter and it's only October ffs!
Also talk of snow next week:wtf:

Lovely day here today. I hope to god it doesn't snow here, the locals have enough trouble navigating the roads on a dry day. This must be the only place on earth that you get held up by white van men all the bloody time. Actually, get held up by everyone. All the time. Overtaking a HGV to find Hans Moleman infront of it in his wee i20, doing 25 in a 50. If there's an inch of snow, the roads are rendered impassable on the local news and schools and businesses close at the first sign of a few frosty flakes. Nowt a shovel and a few spare car mats can't fix :p

Entertaining it is! Last year we lived on a steep slope which was the only way in and out for the people who lived at the bottom of it. We were quite lucky as the main road was at the top and we were only a few houses down. It got a tad steeper outside ours and no one got the hang of it at all! People would get so far up the hill before wheelspinning and sliding back down, sometimes sideways and almost always sliding into the kerbs ROFL lol As they were all adamant on wheelspinning their poor motors in first gear, the road turned into hard ice and there was no chance for anyone :wtf: we did the kind thing and helped out quite a lot of people by keeping some spare car mats at the end of the drive and putting them under their wheels, giving them a good push etc. Not the old bat who lived opposite though, she was a cow. I left her there for over 20 mins one day until she gave up :p Ha.
is that a rare 4x4 nova in that pic bazil? looks like it has similar levels of rust....
Iced over here this morning at 5.30am, would of had to de-ice the car but I walk to work lol

lmfao, I tried that when we had snow early 2009. Only had the XE in then but it was fun enough lol
Mind you, I managed to get halfway to work at about 6am, on ungritted roads - which actually made it a little easier as loose snow was grippier than pressed down ice - only stopped due to sooo many spakkers sliding all over the shop. My mate in his 306 failed to even get off his flat driveway :d
I love driving in snow, I hope we get loads this winter.

ha ha only drivin in snow once and took the back road instead of the main roads was well easy!
I did learn however not to break then turn your wheel to turn corners as not alot happens while your breaking.
the only brake you should be using in the snow is the handbrake.Use gears to slow down.If you need the brakes,your going too fast
its because not all the road was snowy and i was using the breack before i got on to the snow, the gritter had missed a spot. but thanks for the tips i take any tips for snow drving :)

Take a run up. Don't let the wheels spin if possible, if they do then the last thing you wana do is stop dead as you will not get going again. Turning the wheel left to right if coming to a stop uphill can also aid grip.

think mike meant thin steelies ftw... they concentrate the pressure on the snow and dig into it more, finding tarmac, alloys will just sit on top of the ice. I actually repainted some alloys for my car for winter lol

Turning in is not the main problem its getting up the thing! lol the gritter did bugger all last year although i give it too them they did try and grit the hill, they ended up sliding back down sidewards... hoping to catch it on video if they try again :D
Bag of sand in the boot is handy in case you do get stuck.

ABS is dog muck in the snow, real brakes and knowing how to drive in snow FTW, i was using my SRi V6 vectra through the snow we had this year and th TC got turned off everytime i was in it, miles easier to drive in poor conditions if you know what youre doing, and i go out looking for snow to drive in every year btw, and ive not managed to crash yet in ten years of driving :thumb:

i was play in my anti street this morning the astra going to be crap in the snow i nearly punched the TC button out of the dash. and i seen some nice lines round a corner and thort nice hand brake slide time. then looked and remembered the crappy little button was there instead of the good old hand brake. am really starting to hate this car it no fun :-(
The thing is with the audi is when the quattro system isn't working it's terrible for traction, basicaly I'm driving a 210bhp front wheel drive car with no LSD,
the 4x4 is much much more fun in the snow
