Just had a friends xe nova in for some repairs, it kept throwing alternator belts off, i took the alternator off and swapped it with one i knew was ok, once fitted the belt was rubbing on the cambelt cover. So i took it off and put a washer behind the pulley to space it about 3mm, now the belt rubs on the chassis leg :wtf: Im thinking the engine is too far over, i havnt seen many xe novas but im sure they shouldnt have the problem this one has. It has had a bit of the chassis leg cut out for the alternator as well.

on my XE the belt sits very close to the belt cover and i am a bit worried, and the belt cover i have has marks in it where a previous belt has done the same.

Seems odd there is literally 15mm between the inner wing and the cambelt cover.

I have a let in mine and mine kept chucking alternator belts off each time you put your foot down and it was the top 2 bushes at the top of the alternator that had worn so bad it moved the alternator over and was hitting the body so i got 2 new bushes and sleeves from vauxhall which was £11 and hasn't chucked a belt off since. The bracket is the very top 1 where 1 bolt goes to the head and the 13mm nut and bolt that allow the alternator to slide back and forward. If you want a picture of it ill post 1 up if it helps. I don't have the outer cambelt cover on mine but the fan belts are very close. Im using a 10 x 900mm alternator belt on mine. Hope this helps :thumb:

I will get a pic of the one im working on at the moment, it aint good! the cut out in the chassis leg has just been cut and a plate has not been welded in! so there is no strength there. oh dear

Ive got just about enough room on mine to get the belt on and off.
Engines on solid mounts.

You need more clearance than that bodged up pile has.
