Guys i posted a few weeks back but got no joy,

Basically ive got a '92 XE and its got a faint stutter alway thorugh the revs in 3rd, 4th poss 5th but carnt tell as much i dont notice it in 1st or 2nd though ive swapped numerous sensors but got no luck or change from it so heres what ive changed,

CTS
AFM
ICV
Lambda sensor
Knock sensor
Dizzy cap

Ive cleaned the TPS.

Things ive got spair to try,

Fuel Rail
Rotor arm
Crank sensor

Ive just recdently done a head rebuild and fitted new inlet gasket and checked all hoses and couldnt see anything.

Could a dodgy fuel reg cause this?

I just want it sorted now as it really annoying.

Rep for any good suggestions/cures you can give.

Have you done a compression test to see if your engines okay, also is the timing set up properly?

Are your revs sticking at a certain rev range?

What colour are your plugs turning?

Have you flashed any ecu fault codes up?

does the xe have the tracion control throttlebodie?

sounds like timing might be out

I had a similar problem on my impreza and it was the mass air flow meter sensor in the end.

Southie,
Compressions fine, timings spot on, revs dont stick, plugs are a cookie colour and no ecu lights.

Plug,
nar mate standard throttle body and timings spot on.

1Chiz,
AFM been changed for known working one.

Have you good earths on the engine?

Any upgraded parts ie cams, verniers?

Have you tried another fuel pump? Tbh your plugs seem ok but without seeing them it maybe running lean.

Was the engine and gearbox fine before you fitted them?

Southie: No mate no cams or any of the like just standard XE stuff not tried a pump mate but theres loads of pressure at the rail i was leaning towards the pressure regulator but didnt know if it would cause these symptoms:confused:
ive checked the plugs in a haynes manual with the plug chart and thats saying perfect mixture and theres no oil residue round the outside of them either and i got the engine and box through a friend so ive no idea what it was like before mate.

Was the engine okay before fitting though?

Have you tried maybe a new set of ht leads or even a coil, you could be getting a spark breaking down somewhere when under heavy load.

Andy: i was thinking more of the same bud and today ive realised that i get the stutter in 2nd gear as well.

Southie: I dont know anything about the engine before i got it mate tbh but there new ish beru lead that i got when i bought the engine and the coil is off a known running engine.

Personally with all the stuff you have tried I would look at whats left - injectors and leads & plugs

Get the injectors ultrasonically cleaned and put some new leads and plugs in and see how it goes.
