View Full Version : I think my garage has been broken into

I was in the area early this morning (airport run) so I checked on the garage I share with my mate. i usually open the door, check our shiz is still where it should be and leave satisfied no little light fingered tw4t has been helping themselves.

This morning though I couldn't get the door to open. It's a typical aluminum up and over easy to break into job :/ It has the main handle/lock and two shackles I think they're called with padocks on. The shackles were fitted by the landlord and aren't amazing.

The door itself is sitting pretty much hard against the frame on one side, hence it not being able to clear it. The other side has a sizeable gap but you can't see in. There's also no sign of any obvious crowbar damage to the frame/door/locks etc, but I was the last one in and the door was fine then.

What's peoples thoughts? I think it's possibly been levered to the sides to bypass the shackles.

It seems strange that it would all be put back almost right though?

I'll take a trip up later on when I'm better equipped and see what's what. I just hope the door doesn't fall off the tracks when I do get it open - and that our stuff is there! :(

Yeah they're a crap design aren't they! I assumed the shackles were far enough across though that the frame/door would have to be 'adjusted' to gain access though. :/ I know you can open them with a spade etc if they just have the standard handle lock.

Nah Rob, Rusty is safe and sound at mine mate, but I have wheels, coilovers, JDM parts, mk1 XR2 parts etc in there. Most stuff is burried behind a wall of scrap though, and I purposely have it like that so as to cause maximum noise/limit access.

A snapped wire would be the happy version! How do I get in, just lever it back central?

Lever it open with a spade. Take some ID with though as a suspcious neighbour might call the plod thinking your breaking in.

Is it a henderson? usually the scrotums can open up an ovvers with a tinned meat key,and or jump at the point of the door where bolts are most likely to be.

It is a Henderson Andy. if my mates diamond cut pepper pots have walked he'll be wounded! I forget the tyre profile he has on them (brand new) but it's discontinued and p!ss takingly hard to acquire now so he says.

Good call on the I.D. I may need it if I go up with a Stanley 'car theif' flat blade screwdriver, crowbar and a spade! lol I'll try and take the Volvo too as if I go up in the skateboard it makes me look even more suss (and gay?) lol

I'll see what the score is and repot back later. :thumb:

lol It's a good car TBH, fun handling, electric things and runs on fresh air. :)

We got the door open without too much hassle. With some better light on it I can see theres a large shallow dent (about bumper high) one of the bolts connecting the rods to the lock had fallen out. Looks like it's been backed into I guess. Ironically it now has frame damage from us though. lol
