View Full Version : Ecotec into a Nova
Hey guys,
is there much difference in putting an 2.0l ecotec in a nova to a redtop
what parts are needed for the conversion, and whats the wiring like. many thanks.
questions to be answered.
shafts
wiring
mounts
gearbox
Wiring is easy enough just need to get around the ECU immobiliser other than that pretty much safe as fitting an XE,
A f16> box will fit with the ecotec so the shafts are the same as the xe, the mount is the safe too.
So basically same amount of work.

only 4 holes will line up for the crank pulley

i have the whole car,
so have the keys etc,
and baxter, for the single pulley for the alternator etc..
and thanks. ill have a look at the redtop guide loosely
Yeah you may have the keys and the transponder but you still need to cut and splice the loom unless you fancy fitting the entire calibra loom
yeh yeh, can i not strip out the gubbins i need from the cally, ECU etc and then just "place" the ecu in the nova, and splice in the other bits i need for the engine/dash etc.
Wiring is very very similar to baby xe. So as said, ecu, then the transponder wiring, and put the key/keychip inside the barrel.

I know of the ideal car to slot it into............
Personally if I was doing an ecotec bigblock I'd consider an F13/15 box as they wont need the more expensive/harder to find shafts.
so if i ran it on a f15 box, could i run the nova shafts on the nova its self?
or will i need the 22 spline ones?
you need a carlton or frontera bottom pulley, single v and fits the eco. use its alt aswell.wiring wise as said its the same as a baby xe, but if you get an early cav or astra mk3 loom and ecu its non immob. one of these in a corsa with an f16cr i did was bloody quick
Yeah.
But you'd need a different fly/clutch setup to fit the f15
f15 = nova ones, iirc using a 1,7 derv fly and a n ova gte clutch is the way to go.
which is dearer and alot more hassle than conversion shafts
lol so its proper hassle
fook it i wont do it.
i have a mount kit here. and can supply the alt and pulley.
(Iain Grants?) old gsi was a very tidy ecotech example (now in wardy's hands but with a c20xe iirc)
stripped and scrapped john, was reshelled etc...

didn't he have a wip with all the details in though?
yeah wardy got it as accident damaged, broke it, and used the conversion bits etc in a new shell, and sold the eco

Using the F15 smallblock box, the linkage, shafts & mounts is all un-modded Nova stuff. I fail to see how this is more hassle or more expensive. Surely a scrapyard flywheel & a new clutch makes sense anyway?
But I was just throwingh the option into the mix. On an XE (redtop) I would say a bigblock box is prolly the way to go.
If it was me, in a nova id do a eco with a f15 box, flywheel isnt going to be so hard to find, the fact your saving hassle/time/money on 22spline shafts is great.

22 spline shafts arent perfect by all accounts, the plunge (in & out tolerance) is sacrificed a little I've heard.
Found the original wip.
