Will a vectra head unit fit into my nova without any cutting and splicing?
Basicly i want a CD changer in my nova and have been asking around for one and people have been really good and come up with the goods but one offer was a vectra 6 disc changer and head unit...... now i know to make the changer work it just wires into the back of the head unit but does the vectra head unit fit the space in my nova and plug str8 in ????! i want to have the option of putting my standard radio back in so i dont want to cut anything up really !!
any help appreciated team :thumb:
thanks
matt
Hi Matt,
As mentioned in my pm i doubt the two will fit seemlessly the wire plug on a nova predates the general multiplug found on most new stereos especially if your nova is a mark1. The only way to be sure is to remove your nova's original stereo and have a look / take a picture of the plugs you find attached to the original stereo then get a picture of the plug block on the vectra stereo and see if they match. Alternatively you could custom make a loom, to do so you will need a general stereo loom of the new type connectors (Twin eight pin blocks, two rectangular sections with eight pins each attached together to form a square) then get a old connector block that matches the novas and splice the two together. You will end up with a mini loom with the standard double eight pin connector on one end and the nova compatible connector on the other (eight pin for live neutral etc) and speaker connectors to match the novas (circular pin and spade individual connectors, thats how mine was) and you will be able to connect them together without damaging the novas standard connectors allowing you to change back to the original at a later date if you so wish. One last though: the space in a (mk1) novas dash is slightly limited so make the loom as small as possible or it might not fit in.
Hope this helps
Vectras came with the lcd display on the dashboard, whereas nova's came with them on the unit themselves
It should it straight in, however you'll have no display, so youll have no idea how to tune your stereo, what your listening to etc :thumb:
