does the ECU light come on? and when it eventually starts how does it run?
could be crank sensor..
it has always ran lumpy like it will ideal nicely at about 900 then shout up to 1200 to stop itself stalling, not noticed that my ecu has a light tbh lol, did notice that the cable to the crank sensor was slightly burnt as it must have touched the manifold but looked okay, is there a way to test if its okay?

Mine was doing that not long ago mate! I changed the cts (coolant temp sensor) and it's been fine since.. Worth trying that first there only about £5! I'll get a link for you
Temperature (air temp etc) shouldnt make any difference to an XE!
If it was a carb - then maybe! lol
Get the EML wired in and go from there

It will if the cts has gone it will cause it to overfuel and it won't run as it should!

As said get the ECU light wired up, it also may be (if yours is an early spec XE) the air flow meter.

It's a blue plug on the thermostat, the one that a blue wire (temp signal) from your clocks connect to

Not when its cold though.
CTS problems arise when the engine is warm 9 times out of ten.
any other suggestions then? as said the problem is only there when cold its fine once it has started and warmed up

I had the same problem on my xe egg. It was the idle control valve. Have you got a powercap or Sfi box on? I have a spare icv if you wanna collect it.

Your idle control valve is under the throttle body, at the back of the engine.
it will be easier to show you, send me a pm and i'll give you my address, come up for a chat and a brew.

White plug/blue socket is the CTS. ICV is under the TB as stated above. Easier to get to from underneath IMO.
just out of curiosity what is the sensor next to the cts, its in the picture i took i pulled the cable with the spade connector of it
