hi my nova 1.2 spi failed mot on being too rich took for a tune and was told need a new carb but in my opinion dont think it has been set up right as its not the right carb. It is a webber but dont know what car it is off or if it should be on mine. how do i find out what carb it is and where i can get it set up properly? thanks

surely if its got a webber, its not a spi, and therefore should have alot more Co allowance?

co allowence? thats all i know is the engine is a 1.2 st and the weber says 32/34 hmtl 1897

Well if the car is a 1.2i, then it should be running on injection, not a carb. The MOT tester will test the cars CO2 output based on the rating given for the car/engine. Has it had a complete engine change or just a carb put on? as if its an original older carb engine, you wont need to meet the lower co2 rating of an 1.2i engine.

its a 1989 thought it was original engine but not sure now??

Ahh, you said it was a 1.2 spi (single point injection) but if its an 89 1.2 then it will have a carb engine.

The original carb on a 1.2 is a Pierburg 1B1. Some people change them for a Webber carb instead as they perform better, which sound slike what you have - Webber 32/34

take it to a proper old school car garage, and get it tuned to get the emissions right. then run it back to the mot garage for its free retest.

was the engine warm when tested?? if not, then take it for a good old fashioned blast to get it warm too

i did take it to the only garage i know that does tuning but he dont know much about them does anyone know anywhere in south wales i could have it looked at properly? i have got it throught the re test now but the garage i took it too for tune said i need new carb and inlet manifold leaking so id rather a second opinion

ok, you definitely need to find a better garage. we stuck one on Ades sr in a tent at a show & it drove back to scotland........

if the carb/inlet is leaking, you buy a couple of gaskets and a tube of sealant.

I never have problems with emmisions on a carbed engine as the emission allowance is rediculous iirc,
If it really is that bad, get the ignition timing and fuel air ratio tweaked with,
and also make sure the choke isnt on, as having the choke out even slightly can affect the emmisions greatly. And find out if your car is meant to be fitted with an injection or carbed engine, as might of been changed somewhere in its life?
