View Full Version : Little Blue nova project :)
Here is my nova! just a small project nothing major. A mrk2 1.2carb merit Given to me by my Nanny and Poppy for flowers and a bottle of plonk. When i got it it had some rust not much was in good condition just needed a clean. It had done just over 21000 miles this now stands just under 30000 as its my daily drive.
and so the work commenced.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/carpics092.jpg
First things First after a good clean was lowering, got some fk coilovers.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/carpics090.jpg
Next thing was it to pass its MOT test, i left in in the hands of my trusty mechanical boyfried ( an mot tester ) where some mild work needed to be done
it started with some rust which turned into a hole made by sam ( he hid the car away from me ... well tried to)

and was a bit concerd. But Sam was actually pretty awsom at this!!!!
Tah dah!!!!!

Since this its been fitted with a peko exhaust system with four branch manifold, clearish rear lights and bigger better breaks. There was discussion on how to have the bumpers but i have now decided to leave them as they are. Its had color coordinated alloys on before which turned out to be a fail...loverly wheels not on nova tho.

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/peakdistrict202.jpg
wheels above = fail
wheel below (cesaros) = success

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/newwheels4.jpg
Wheels looked lush and got some vauxhall stickers to go on the centercaps (trying to find some nice badges now to replace the stickers). Sat and polish the whole thing inside and out, hooverd, washed and burgo even got mr muscle with the jet wash to give my engine a clean. I then sat an tcutted the whole car including under the bonnet, used back to black on some of the pipe work and classic peanut butter on the bumpers. Hairdryerd the black plastic between the windows and pulled it off, more polish.

Next step i think will be the interior although i am undecided on what shape and form it will take, have a feeling it will be a trial and error approch like much of the work done before hand. Athough i try to do the work theres no way i could do it without Sam so thanks sam :)
Ooooooooooooooooh now I know who you are lol tidy little motor too.
Looks a nice clean wip and spill the beans Mike?
Looks a nice clean wip and spill the beans Mike?
Its Burgo's brother's missus IIRC (Sam's missus like).
Ah right thought I recognised the car
Thats right :), we were sharing an account but people kept getting confused, so got me own account to save the hasstle. Theres a thread already off the car on sams account but i thought it best to make a new freash one.
sweet nova buddy :thumb:
love the colour coded strut brace n the white careso's :)
dont see many this colour
got the manifold a similer colour too lol, it was bright blue but i think most the color burnt off... was a fowl smelling smoke coming from the bonnet for a few days after it was put on.
You dont see many altho i did drive past one the same colour trying to park down the road where i live, havent seen it since tho i really want to know whose it is, it was standard but looked really tidy

That gash in the arch was exactly the same as mine :) Loving the transformation. Those Cesaro's look spot on :thumb:
how rando lol
yes I ADORE chocolate but i chose yorkie because my last name is york and every one has a funky doody nick name and i wanted to have one too lol
it started as a rust patch thats turned out had rotted the whole way thru. Sam tried hiding it from me as i gave it to him in one piece and he brought it back from work like that. But it was him that did all the work and the welding and he did a really good job have a feeling the other arch is starting to look like that sadly. There was another rust patch sam fixed up for me on the corner of the door that had rotted through too.
Thanks i love them too would of been them or comps. :)
Ah so you are Sam's missus lol I was right afterall.
yes i am lol, :) i dont mind being called Amanda instead of sams missus lol :P although i think its gonna stick as missus

Sam is Great with the whole body work stuff it wouldnt be what it is without him, needs working on again hoping to use what he has taught me from last time to try and do alot off it myself, with his supervision off course. Well the cesaros tyres are 185 45 15s i dont want to put 195 on them as it wouldnt look as good. I will be keeping them untill i find some tyres for them, they will be show wheels lol.

Looked tidy at Nats...the nice and simple approach works well :) whats in the pipeline for her?
Right nothing major but i do have a little list of little jobs :)
1 - replace the rear lights with clear ones again, that is going to be done today
2 - sort out my cesaros for billing will still be white but im having silver ones for everyday use aswell
3 - got arch repair pannels so will be doing them to sort out rust and buggerd rear quarter
4 - new doors to replace the rusted ones
5 - mark 1 boot lid replacement
6 - paint job on those pannels so its all matching :) and hoping to have a few dents banged out too
7 - new side lights, i fancy smoked but sam has put doubt in my mind that they would look right but hoping to have soem of them
8 - painting the interior dash and other interior parts to match
9 - painting the new manifold blue again like at billing
10 - a good clean :)
thats it for now least then it will be all tidy and look nice, once its at that stage will be focusing on interior more and then once thats where i want it, hopefully i will have a second nova project to work in or it will engine mods on the little blue lol

Whooo yes balley there are now :D i am, very chuffed to announce that my rear arch is nearly better thanks to the wonderfulness that is sam, i will put some pictures up soon as i can. Sam has enjoyed cutting up my car and i have observed him ( i have felt like one of the relatives of a loved one who is undergoing major surgery and has to watch ) But new rear arch is now welded, no fires! and Sam has done a really good job of the welding, unfortunatly the rain has been a right pain in the bum and hinderd us a bit. I have even had a go at the grinder :D how exciting!!!!! and have made a loverly little hole too. Luckily the bumper will cover that :) So any ways, pics will be on soon :)

oooh sounds good, looking forward to seeing the pics of the work.

Tidy wee motor you got there. Also Miami Blue FTW!!yO!!111
I'm also wanting to see some more progress pics as well.
Right, today me and sam ( mainly sam ) fixed my rear quarter today well most of it as it got shunted a while back.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/012.jpg
As you can see it was only a little shunt but i was very peeved off with the Bloke that did it and did give him alot of what for about and made him quite aware that it was his fault and may of possible been very rude to him but o well he might not do it again now
So i brought 2 rear arch repair pannels, they are for mrk 1's but sam made them fit
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/100_5212.jpg
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/100_5210.jpg
Above: I wanted to cut out the section but sam said i wasnt to be trusted
Below: After some very carreful measuring Sam set off about cutting my car up ( which was horrible to watch )
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/100_5220.jpg
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/100_5226.jpg
Once this was done, we discoverd a Dark secret my car had been hiding from us, it was a nasty surprise it was rotten! so Sam sorted that out for me to, such a good egg
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/100_5227.jpg
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/100_5232.jpg

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/100_5239.jpg
Once that was sorted, On went the repair pannel.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/100_5243.jpg
In the mean time while sam was working his magic i was practising my own skills by sorting out the shell that lies behind the bumber also suffering from rust. I GOT TO PLAY WITH THE GRINDER!!!
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/100_5228.jpg
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e69/amandayork_photo/100_5230.jpg
Then i primerd and painted it

Well so far thats as far as we got, working again on it tomorro and hopefully will be painted and ready this week. More pictures will be up end of tomorro hopefully and also a geat big thankyou too sam!
Seems abit extreme, could you have not filled it and sprayed it, or got dent wizard out to pop it out?
Good stuff :)
BUT, always ALWAYS tie long hair back when using a disc cutter!!!
Good work but I would of agreed with Jay, but after seeing the rust it was probably for best to cut them out!
Good work guys :)

It was creased on the inside all the way to the light and the metal had stretched, We had tried to fix it ourselves however it went all bumpy where the metal had stretched and the crease was still very strong and visible, By the time you have paid for it to be pushed out properly it would not have been worth doing especially as the repair pannels were a bargin £25 pound for the two. it was also a good job we did do it this way other wise we would not of found the rust to sort out either. It is a long way around it but will be worth doing :)

ha ha it was alright :d Was my fingers that were at more risk, as sam had to tell me they were getting closer and closer. Got told off when they were only 5 mls away ... whoops lol

Guess good you found the rust, i would have just filled it meself. Years ago when i had my corsa sport i hit a lamp post hadn't had it long. When i say hit, i was parked next to it doh. Took it to guy i know 150 to fill and spray.
To be honest looked better than it did before it got hit lol

cant have you messing up the multi colored nails lol, you did it the right way first time it would of took just as long and probably same amount of money in filler least you know you have nice new panel.

We did toy with the idea of filling it, but it was just too deep the picture doesnt show how bad it actaully was ( it wasnt bad but the pictures makes it out to be smaller) While the arch is being finnised i think i will be wishing we just filled it lol But once its done i know its done properly and tehres no rust to worry about :)
Whoops, at least it looks better now lol, are you going to the Billing show? If you are are you bringing your nova?

i bet the rest of the street love you lol,
Aint my street lol, Sam says F**k them.
We were considerate and let them have a lie in and we didnt carry on till late hours so no worries, no complaints as of yet. Sam and Luke had one complaint and that was last year.
Use a block sander with some 80 grit then 180 will come up in no time, I bet we only spent half an hour on lewis' if you don't include mixing the filler and waiting it to dry and having breaks as your arms ache!
Plus you don't loose the shape of the panel so easily.
Looking good though :D

Tea duty not required if you're doing most of the sanding imo, that's the difficult bit lol
No i was keeping them stocked with plenty of tea, after day of sanding i was getting bored but i would of carried on but once luke was over, him and sam cracked on and there was nothing for me to do. I even tried busying myself with other little job like tidying up the rear brake drums and stuff. But to be fair a big hats of to luke and sam because that arch has been a pig to do and i was quite at my tether.
Today My arch got painted it is still to be mopped but this will be after billing now as its cutting it a bit short lol

Great work loving the road side arch repair top marks
Well its been a little while, and its not been to any shows lately but it is coming to billing no matter what! Been repairning dents in the bonnet and rear arch. Car hopefully is going in for painting and with sam and lukes help all pannels are going to look loverly and mint. havent taken many pictures as its all pretty much sanding and filler at the moment but will put them up soon. If the whole car does get painted then it will be time to work on the interior next to get that looking good. :)

Rolled arches to fit these bad boys. They fit just about, plan is to get them painted white to be my new show wheels.
Not much to report on in total just little bits really :)
You never did an update when it got painted
Oh yeah ..... your right!!!! .... ill get that sorted.
Also by the way it had nearly a full respray last year. This was done in Burgo's garage within was it two weeks? Where Luke, Sam and myself stripped it all back and prepped it for painting... this also included a new rear arch being fitted, remote central locking being fitted and we also de locked the car so its just the handles.
