I would save up an extra grand and open a load more options tbh, failing that £4k will get you a nice e36 m3 evo and there isnt much better cars for the money.

Stuart

I've been looking at similar budget and requirements...

Bearing in mind it costs me £420 to insure my VX220, it was coming in at £700ish for a CTR, 600ish for an ITR, wouldnt bother with a pre 5 evo as they aer imports and a fisting on ins etc.

The quotes for the cars were from admiral for an idea only so would likely get them down to near the £420 area..

CoupeLET
06-10-10, 03:38 PM
Insurance isnt much of a problem unless its an import. Which has kinda made me shy away from anything jap, i was thinking about something german but didnt realise you could get an e36 m3 for that kind of money (off i go for a look). Failing that i was looking at mainly VAG group cars but again im unsure :)

M3s are falling below £3k now, If you have £4k or more to spend on one you should find a really clean one :thumb:

What kind of MPG would you see normally from one? I know it wont be that good, only thing that puts me off is the fact most people dont know the difference between an e36 m3 and all the very many reps you see going around lol

astra coupe turbo? get a nice example for 2.5 - 3k, get one with a front mount, vxr turbo and exhaust and you will see a nice 250+ brake with a remap. Can get near on 300 for not alot of money. BMW e39 540i sport. Around your budget, 286bhp 4.4 v8 , seats 4 humans with reasonable comfort, my dads averages around 25 to 30 mpg when driven sensibly and that's not motorway driving. Awesome cars and is what I want next.

Most fast cars 'drink' fuel when booted.

I'd go with something n/a tbh. BMW E36 M3's are pretty rapid & German. Something Honda will open your eyes to jap reliability. I'm in love with Accord type R's & Integra's though there are some Honda bargains to be had. Prelude VTi's are awesome value, 200+ bhp for £2k or an Accord coupe is a rare beast. More room than the 'lude'. Otherwise I'd look at a Lexus IS200.
