Easily mapped/chipped?
Reliable?
What sort of bhp in mild tune?
Fit on an f20?

Discuss.

try this one too

i saw it in the flesh at pv, conversion wasnt overly tidy and the engine itself was slightly on the p!ss but fair play to the guy for having a go!

B204 engine would be a good start. They fit on an F23 gearbox, so should fit on an F20 as the LET bolts upto both.

Saab Tronic T5/7 for mappable std ecuness, or any ecu if you arent etb'd up :)

Lots of the VX'ers are now moving towards the Saab blocks/heads as they are fantastic in std form and good for 400ish bhp

who's done one? fair few, there is a vec b, and loads of astra 3's
Seen any good wips on the net? as said, pauls and astranige on mig
What model saab is best for a donor? post 1993 ng900, upto 98. easiest wiring and uses the vaux bellhousing, pre 93 they use the saab pattern.
Who tunes them? saabflight
Easily mapped/chipped? very, download trionic t5 suite, it has built in stage 1,2,and 3 maps
Reliable? yus, the 2.3 has a habit of throwing rods if mistreated but the 2.0 is fuss free.
What sort of bhp in mild tune? mild stage 2 is a de cat, filter and remap, which gives 260bhp
Fit on an f20? yar :d

they won't fit very well into the front of a nova....unless you are planning something very interesting with the inner arches....mini style flip front/spaceframe etc

Strange this thread has came up today. My mate came up in his mk3 astra with Saab turbo engine last night. Will post pictures shortly just on my lunch break atm. Has used an f20 box and mix match of Saab/vauxhall clutches. Goes very well. He has done the conversion on his drive way over a year period on and off. He said the saabs use a wheel speed sensor of an abs type sensor. But to get around this has picked the pulse signal from the astra gtr digi dash. He also said the whole Saab front subframe will fit a cav/astra including gearbox shafts hubs and suspension arms. 1 thing he did say was to buy a whole car if your going to do this as there is alot of things needed from the saab. Also the wiring ment to be very involved but has now a full wiring dam hes drew up for future refrence. Will post some pics shortly.

yep, and CVs i think my mate said

but its basically a case of unbolting the saab subframe and bolting it under your vauxhall car (remove vauxhall subframe first tho)

will ask him about the wiring diagram next time i see him, i dont see him much though as he lives in stockport.

There are plenty of little things that need changing, he had to have the pas pipes made up so they mate from the saab pas pump to the vauxhall rack for example, to be 100% honest alot of the stuff he said was way over my head.

im sure if you get stuck in the conversion john he wouldnt mind answering a few questions as hes a nice helpfull lad.

one thing he did say was next time he does one he will fit the 2.3 engine as there forged.

he asked alot of questions to a lad over on mig who owns a white one with a bit of a kit on, im not sure of his username as i dont use mig. he de-coded the ecu for him as they have a key code.

My mate is building a v nice mk4 astra van and using "a couple" ;) of Saab engines.I'm sure he said something about the ecus but if he couldn't sort it they were going on aftermarket management but like has been said they are fairly tuneable and IMO a better option to a let.I will see if he wants to keep it a secret but if not I will find out all spec and any problems/niggles he's had.

Stt on here has built a mk3 Astra GSi with said engine in, not sure it has hit the road yet but it was all in last time I saw it.

Pretty sure it needed a manual steering rack putting in for one reason or another.

Give it a few years and these engine conversions will be 10 a penny. IMO. Once everyones, figured out what needs to be done and how to guides pop up on the Internet. Suppose it's a good thing for us really.
