I cant fathom why C20LETs use those massive odd copper things anyway. Unless someone wants to enlighten me?

I got M8 studs from vauxhall, good quality & thread into the head nicely. Some I got from a local engineer's were awfull & would have ruined the threads in my head if I persevered with them.

The other option is to buy a length of M8 studding & cut/file your own. Obv you need a bench, vice & relevant tools for this.

I presume it's because of the heat. Copper will soften and expand and contract from temparature extremes without fracturing. Steel is harder and likes to corrode itself to steel studs. Stainless steel is harder still and brittle under extreme heat loads and mechanical force i.e. vibration.

I'm sure the studs & copper nuts I bought from vauxhall didnt cost anything like £14.

I doubt any of us on here would either given the number of times things get taken apart lol I was more talking about why a manufacturer would choose copper :thumb:

Auto Vaux site is crap, give them a call.

Think I bought new studs and nuts for both the exhaust and the inlet and it was about £20.

What i found whilst building a C20LET in the past was that with the standard manifold copper nuts, where it tapers out at the end they fowld on the manifold on a few of the studs. Hence why normal nuts without the tapered bit go on with no probs so the silly looking things were Vauxhalls remedy.
