I'm getting hooked on these ere Novas.

Now I'm selling my MK3 Golf I am finding myself drawn to a bog standard 1.2 nova (Not anyone imparticular) but i was wondering what are like on fuel around town?

Also i'm thinking I could use one for until i've finished the GTE and then I could go mad on the runaround next year and build a corker superfast one....

So what are they like around town as I have to drop my teenagers off and pick them up from work 3 times daily and i clock up about 50 miles a day around town.................:thumb:

youd get more than that - i can get that in my tired 147k mile 2ltr vectra

i reckon you could do 40mpg - i was on about 38 in my old 1300 escort

its got a lot of cold starts & filling the car up with adults will soon make it thirsty.

mine never got above 35mpg on round town driving.

Hey if i could get more mpg out of it i would go bear foot.........:)

This Golf I've got is an auto cos my wife disabled and it only does about 18 mpg around town. I wouldn't mind but its not a VR6 or anything..:)

Well the MPG figures your all saying is certainly more economical than our existing cars....
What about a Nova Diesel, just to through a spanner in the works,
What would they do?

My 1.2i 4 speed is alright about town - I used to could stick £5 in and that would get me 40/50 mile

I commute in my 1.2 currently.
Right now I'm getting approx 86miles from a tenner of juice at £1.12.9p/litre. If anyone cares to calculate.

I think it could be better. It's not much cheaper than the Golf to run tbh.
I reckon the carb is a bit out of tune, who knows? New car next week!

My 1.2 carb before it died, constantly did 42 - 45mpg and that was around town mostly.

I used to get 35 ish around town doing takeaway delivery in a 1.2 carb, 5 speed (50k miles) with 185 55 14 tyres. I reckon high 40s/low 50s on a long run and thats with the carb in as good a shape as it can be when set up by a garage with a long history of dealing with carbbed stuff - it wouldn't have been perfect unless they put it on the rollers and set it up on them.

Well I know one thing for sure its no good having an automatic for the amount of miles I do around town, unless its a little 1 litre thing......lol

Auto is fine on a long run but no good around town.

I don't suppose anyone is interested in a VW Golf Auto SE MK3 with only 71K on the clock swap for a Nova?

1000/112.9=8.86/4.546=1.95
86/1.95=44.1mpg

i lug about town alot in mine, a 10er goes on for ever, but no idea what mpg i get as dont count, i just know i can do over 60 miles on £10 and have some to potter about locally for a day or two. pretty good imo!

My old 1.2 carb 5-door was fairly decent, about 35-40 I think about town, and skipping from 2nd to 4th in 30mph zones helps too :)
