View Full Version : Are these 1300 pistons low comp ?
Started stripping down my 1300 turbo engine today,
As the only set of standard pistons are in the built up engine in the car I cannot compare them,
So are these low comp ones ?? I think they look different to standard but not sure

I cant remember what std 8v pistons look like but they could be. Deffo oversized (.5mm).
definitely low comp. +20thou (in old money) oversize.
look on this link.. (http://www.ms-motor-service.com/ximages/PDF_Kataloge/ko_opel_web.pdf)it looks a lot like item 8, the normal one is item 9
they look like it to me, as the 1300 ones have round cut outs for the valves. Yours look like the whole dish is as deep as the std cut outs.
:d happy days
Am I going to have difficulty getting new rings for them tho ?
no, oversize rings for any gm 1300 should do. it all depends how worn the bores are really..
if you want to get really old school, buy .75 rings & then use a small file to gap them properly. it takes ages but it works. i can't remember how many thou (40 to the mm) gap per inch of bore it is, but mr internet will tell you

Not the best pic, but the only one I have to hand, 0.5mm oversize and valve cutouts enlarged to suit my big valves

Mine are std compression, the std valve cutouts were in the piston crown, so suspect yours are low comp

BINGO Ted!
they do look slightly special :p
they weren't special at all.. just a low compression 1300 as fitted in opel kadetts to give 55hp and run on 2 star fuel.
ooh they most certainly look to be.Andy likes alot

is that where theyre from? You learn summat every day:thumb:
if you lot bothered to look at my linky on page 1 you'd learn loads...oe spec piston catalogues are fascinating for engine conversions....
i bought my previous nova as a '1200', and found it actually had a low comp 1.3.. i weighed it in...
my 1200+1300=1400 conversion was also based on a 1.3 lo comp from a kadett.
