View Full Version : Fuel tank, hoses, sizes, fittings, etc

Come to fit my fuel hoses to the tank and getting a bit confused.

The filler breather is ok, got a big fat 13mm pipe for that to go through the chassis leg.

The smaller breather, I don't have any pipe small enough for this, but can it just be blanked off?

Fuel feed, yep that's fine, 8mm ID hose fits on well there

Fuel return, I was led to believe this was 6mm ID? However there's no way I'm getting a 6mm ID hose on that, and 8mm ID fits nicely? Should I just run 8mm return all the way?

run 8mm both ways to the fuel rail. make sure it is the higher pressure stuff.

the other breather pipe is some tiny stuff, and is usually clipped to the front lip of the tank and goes to the other side of the tank.

The tiny breather goes to the carbon canister I'm guessing? Was just hoping I could block it with a bolt tbh.

Yeah it's high pressure hose, <10bar or something, got some 6mm for the return thinking thats what I needed though, d'oh.

on my mpi tank, the tiny hose is about 3ft long and vents out, with no carbon canister, that is on the later models, so i don't know. but you must not block it off. the one up the filler neck is just there to move air about when you are filling it, the little one is the only proper tank air vent, and if you block it up, it will collapse the tank when the pump is sucking the fuel out.

Fair enough cheers, I'll get a short length of 5mm ID hose and vent it to just below the tank (or just clamp some 6mm stuff on it since it won't be under pressure)

Nice one, yeah I remember some clips on the edge of the tank actually, wonder where they've gone lol Carbs have this too?

yes they do iain, and baxter, frankly, i'm shocked.....proper advice.....what next, a nova that you keep????

That breather can just finish at the end of the fuel tank after going through the little hole yeah? Doesn't need to vent to anywhere inparticular?

Fuel tank vent pipe, i ran mine along the edge of the tank and looped it round the filler neck.

I have mine clipped in place where Baxter has drawn and going through the hole - Tank's in place now so can't change that lol
