View Full Version : what does a cat actually do????

mowgli
28-09-10, 12:41 PM
as a non cat lover, please can the people of a feline persuasion please explain what practical use a cat is....

apart from once every 5 years when a mouse gets in.

you can't walk one & play ball or frisbee on the park

it certainly won't warn you of intruders, it'll sit there smugly observing......

i'm in need of answers

I've no idea why I'm replying tbh because I don't own a cat lol

mowgli
28-09-10, 12:54 PM
in english law, you can own a dog, but not a cat.....

a dog is faithful to its owner, and can be used as a working animal. if you hit a dog on the road, it is your legal duty to find the owner....

BUT NOT IF YOU HIT A CAT!!!!!

bazil
28-09-10, 12:57 PM
I've got one but had about 5 and 4 dogs lol

granted cats don't do much but the same could be said for 99% of pets, goldfish, or any fish, snakes, hamsters, gerbils etc etc,

Each to there own IMO,

If it wasn't for one of my old cats I wouldn't know how soft a moles fur is, the little cat caught it and brought it in the house lol

how come? whats the difference between a cat living in your house and a dog? the dog will respect you, and sit on the floor or in its bed, whilst the cat will laugh at your puny being and sit on your sofa/bed/worktop/curtains/you.
cats are evil, dis-loyal creatures

what do you reckon cats do when they are out all day on their own? having a manicure? i'd hate to think where they go and what the get up to, before coming back into your home and sitting on your furniture. most animals will eat horse **** (including cats), as its mostly undigested grass

I've got a cat, the only time we see ours is if it jumps up on the sofa inbetween me and my partner and just sits there puring (sp?)

apart from that he's outside. they dont do anything speical but he don't do any harm so suits me fine

Lol. Our cat doesn't go outside, it's a pedigree burmise (sp?) my mum used to bread and show cats years ago and when you've paid £... For a cat you don't want it catching germs, flea's, cat flu (which can spread to people.) or ran over. I do see where people are coming from tho!

some friends of mine got adopted by a cat, it kept coming round, and they then started feeding it & fitted a cat flap.... some time later, they moved house & took the cat with them... the 'real owner' put posters up around the area.........

ever noticed just how many times that happens, very few people lose a dog..

Cats are alright, they're lazy, good rodents catchers and nice to stroke. But if you want your cat to do some work, bolt it into the mid section of your exhaust system and it'll reduce nasty fumes by a fair amount lol

I was just looking at this thread when next doors' cat has wondered in and come right next to my laptop! lol It's such a cheeky little thing :p we seem to attract cats, one night a couple of years ago, we left the bedroom window open overnight because it was really hot, 5am we got woken by two cats brawling on our bed!! My mum has a ginger tom and he's a typical cat. He's your best mate when he wants something then doesn't want to know you once his belly is full! Cats and their shenanigans lol

Cats dont stink your house out like dogs do.Dogs are fukkin dirty stinking bastads that dont leave you alone, the bark at fukk all, they lick you, which makes me bork as they smell like a cesspool. And worst of all they **** and piss all over the place, now 90% of that is down to the owner to clean up,but as jack says-they wipe their ring on the carpet.Every persons house i have been in who's had a dog, stinks.Cat houses-no smell, unless theyre on tinned food which is bad but i would rather have that than a great fat, stinking, slobbering sh1t machine that just sits begging everytime it hears a packet rattle. Also i dont trust ANY dogs around my kids, hear relatives/friends say all the time"he/she loves kids they would never turn"
Bulls1t imo, they could turn anytime and i wouldnt take that risk.

i like cats and dogs, obviously horses are the best lol but out of cats and dogs, although i'd prefer a dog, cats are the more practical option!

i've got 4 of them and they're awesome, they catch spiders and eat them so i dont have a mess to clean up, they sit on my lap and keep my legs warm, they greet me at the door when i come in and they scare steve in the night when they crawl under the duvet lol

imho dogs are like children - they're a constant tie and you cant just give them a bowl a food, clean the litter tray and sod off for a weekend, you have to take them with you or arrange for someone to look after them, its difficult to work full time and have a dog as they need walking for the toilet in the middle of the day (unless they're really good) they chew the house up, they smell especially when wet, their claws hurt when they scratch you and you cant just lock them up in a cage to go to the vets, you have to wrestle them into the car and look like an idiot lol

I used to hate cats till i was forced to live with my girlfriends cat when I moved in with her 7 years ago. I used to think the same as everyone else, that they were useless and unaffectionate, but I grew to love the cat and I really miss him now we've moved away. Thats why we got Wispa :)

He's a constant source of entertainment ( he makes me properly belly laugh at least once a day). He is VERY loving. He is clean ( a dog will go and roll in a muddy puddle, and then go and roll on your bed. A cat will go and roll in a muddy puddle, then go somewhere and clean himself, and not settle down until he's spotlessly clean again)

As claire so rightly said, you can plonk some food down in front of him in the morning, and then go about your day without worrying about him getting 'lonely' or eating the sofa, or having to babysit him whilst he has a poo.

I firmly believe cats are far more intelligent than dogs. My grandmother used to have a Jack Russell, and if it escaped from the house it would just peg it in a straight line in any paticular direction, and if he wasn't caught he would probably continue to run until he died of exhaustion, and it also consistently ran headfirst into the patio doors. Stoopid.

+Rep would be given Lee if i could, i now have two, an eleven year old bengal tiger striped tabby named 'mog' and a seven month old tabby called 'ziva' they are both very clever and very loving and i couldnt bare to be without them, they recognise the sound of my v6 vectra from every other car passing our house and are always waiting (they get up and come to wait behind the front door) to welcome me home from work and as you say always provide laughs and when let out come home again not just for the food but because they know where they live and want to be there, Ziva got shut in a shed or garage about a month ago and i was out till 1am looking for her to no avail, out again just after six am and about half seven she was set free and i heard her collar bell tinkling all the way down the tenfoot, she charged up the garden and shot into my arms meowing in her squeaky high pitched eek as she hasnt found her proper meow yet and was genuinely happy to be back with me/home, i nearly cried with releif and she tried her hardest not to go out for nearly a week afterwards as she wouldnt leave my side!

We have a dog called Libby and kitten called Bob, the dog (Sturges) is a 6yr old jack russell cross staffy, and the kitten (mine) is a 4 month old Bengal cross,
They are both nuts but equally entertaining, the dog is highly lazy and spends about 20 hours a day sleeping and the other 4 barking at anyone who dares walk past the house.

Love em both though and could never choose. :0)

I'm not having any of this. Dogs are definately better than cats in every way. They don't go rolling in muddy puddles then on your bed unless you let them! I'd definately prefer a dog but wouldn't want to leave it alone all day, so may settle for a Maine Coon :thumb: lol

My brother once said he thinks cats are the highest evolved form of life, they have mastered everything, and are now enjoying sitting back and watching everyone else have a crack at it, basically theyre gods in retirement lol

I can live with that tbf:thumb:

I have evidence that doesn't support that claim. Wispa has been attempting to get a fly thats buzzing around, and he is useless at it. I ended up having to swat it myself because he was using the curtains as a way of getting to the ceiling lol

He made a feeble attempt at getting it, knowing full well you would take over, this supports my claim lol

Although my kitten Ziva is a dab hand a fly disposal and im not talking greenfly, she eats full on mouthful sized bluebottles haha!

I don't really hate cats, i'm just a dog person. My mom has 3 cats and i can just tolerate them!

Most people have met our pair of dogs, but here they are just incase!

This was no feeble attempt, he was at it for over an hour, and when I finally dispatched the fly, he flopped down and slept for about 3 hours lol
