Recently bought a corsa redtop as a non runner, the owner doesn't mess with engines but he said when it started playing up it was misfiring, then cut out, he had someone check it out and they thought it was the fuel pump playing up. Checked all plugs and they all spark, and smells of petrol, plugs are new and we've replaced the coil lead as the old was missing due to being damaged. I think he said the engine came from a calibra although its a dizzy not a coilpack.

We've charged the battery althoug it looks knew but it doesnt sound like the engines is turning over fast enough, what else can we check??

Rotor Arm, dizzy cap, crank sensor, does the managment light come on when you turn the ignition on? if it doesnt it may be related to fuel pump relay, ecu or an earth, but try the basics first, have you checked that you have voltage at some of the important sensors? CTS AFM ?

what he said, also get the plugs out, and get a blowtorch and heat the ends up a bit, it burns off any ****.

My mate came over earlier and we did a compression test, basically 1 was quite low, 2 was very low and 3 and 4 had no compression, so looks like a strip down. The previous owner had new valves fitted as they changed the cambelt before but not tensioned it right so were hoping its something simple like not having had the head skimmed or even just cleaning up the surface before the new gasket went on.
