Right been trying to sort my car out today as it doesnt seem 100% right,

Heres my problem, Where the actuator bar joints onto the turbo the swinging arm thing. theres alot of movement in it up, down, left and right is this normal or what is the problem???

I know it should swing left and right from a fixed pivot point but its not a fixed point.

Please dont tell me the turbos gone :(

Joe

It's a gate, so it will open and close, there shouldn't be to much movement up and down.

Is it not making boost? Can you hear the turbo spool up?

Plug
25-09-10, 08:34 PM
no its not making boost at all :( and that gate arm i can pull up about 1mm

not sure about hearing the turbo as the exhaust is mega loud.

I'd unbolt the down pipe elbow and have a look at the gate.

Get some pics and a vid of the movement.

The bush on the wastegate is worn, depending on the wear, you will suffer (low) boost issues.

So have you bought a low compression XE with a windmill in the manifold then? lol

Not anymore Joe, i have bought it.

the thing with the gate there is that much movement in it that when its bolted up in the correct position the actuator cant move it as it seizes.

I couldnt even move it with a screwdriver.

yes i have craig but starting to think i shouldnt have :(

arhhh crap rick whats wrong with yours??

Benn
25-09-10, 08:49 PM
You cant move it with a screwdriver? It should be free to open.

Far from saying I told you so (I didnt) but thats the risk with stuff like 100+k motors 7 paying over the odds for them. Obviously it's likely it is fixable.

I'd ask on MIG see if anyone has a LET KKK turbo for spares.

Rickardo
25-09-10, 08:49 PM
Nothing, i wanted a spare.

Plug
25-09-10, 08:50 PM
i can move it when its not bolted to the actuator

But when its on the actuator bar i cant move it as theres to much movement in the arm

Benn
25-09-10, 08:51 PM
Might be the actuator then.. as that will push it open...

Plug
25-09-10, 08:52 PM
na the actuator moves fine all be it the bar is bent a little (comman problem ive heard)

its defo the gate arm thing thats at fault

Benn
25-09-10, 09:03 PM
Take the elbow off and see if you can move the arm.

Plug
25-09-10, 09:04 PM
i can move the arm now its off the actuator,

But when it was bolted up on the actuator bar it wouldnt move. i unbolted the bar left the arm on it just not bolted up and the actuator moved fine.

its the up and down movement on the arm thats locking it when bolted to the bar

if it wasent boosting and you couldent open the gate this becouse the actuater wouldent allow it why not take off the actuator and take it out and see if it boosts just dont kill it

Plug

its defo the gate thats funked, still cant get the last bolt out thou

Plug
26-09-10, 06:15 PM
Right turbo is off and luckly the penny valve is still on :)

All thats wrong is there is to much play in the arm so its going to need a new one.

Anyone got any reccomendations on where to send it?

Paul
26-09-10, 06:33 PM

See the link in my sig - 99.9% of the let turbos we see have excessive play in the wastgate arm bush. If your running an uprated actuator it will make it worse.

Plug
26-09-10, 08:02 PM
Just who i was hoping to reply lol

How much roughtly would you think it would cost to get the wastegate bush replaced? and a new actuator as the bar is bent

Going to ring your place tomorrow anyway to arrange it getting fixed

Benn
26-09-10, 08:24 PM
Glad you've found the prob.
