View Full Version : HID kit's ?
whats the best kit to buy?
had a look on ebay and there loads
im now fed up of the crapy bulbs in my nova
thanks:thumb:
is any one else running HID's?
IIrc the beam pattern with Hid's Behind the Nova glass isnt very good
Mmhmm, the beam pattern is pretty naff from what I gather.
I have HIDs in both my cars, all the kits I've seen are pretty much the same. Its just the insrtuctions that change in quality (although they're not hard to install) and the more expensive UK kit I bought once came with a battery harness included although they're cheap to make/buy anyway.
I wouldn't recommend putting them in OEM nova lamps though.
are they realy that bad then?
whats with the 6000k n 8000k etc? power is it?
Yeah, the light pattern goes all over the place.
Temperature, in Kelvins, which affects the colour - higher is more blue, but also makes the light darker. So for example, an 8000K bulb is more blue than a 6000K bulb, but is therefore a darker light.
I can get a pic of mine in the Celica that shows the difference between 6000 and 8000K if you like?
that would be great jack
thanks :thumb:
5-6KK FTW.
Illegal without auto aiming and headlight washers. not to mention no good for lenses with the beam patterns.
I put a set in my nova and wouldn't recommend it!lol the beam was all over and if you was heading in the opposite way the lights were blinding!no amount of adjustment would sort it and that was with brand new valeo units.
Edit:I had a 6k set btw
ok
whats a good bulb upgrade?
I had a set of 4300k (Ice white) on my old mark 2 Saxo and they were great,
(Well I thought so anyway) lol
HIDs are on N/S, Halogens are on O/S. Bear in mind this is the celica so has good beam pattern.
Low beam, 6000K:

High beam, 8000K (note the low beam stays turned on in the Celica):

Looking at lights; 8000K in the inner lamp, 6000K in the outer lamp

For a good non-HIDd upgrade, Halfords +50% are great. If you have money to burn then PIAA bulbs are the best but cost ££££
are the 8000k as bright as the 6000k when driving jack?

I meant 4-6K.
I agree though Tony. Although you could have said 'They're grrrrrrrrrrreat!' lol

No, a bit darker - not helped by the fact they take a few seconds to warm up on first use
so 6000k would be the ones to go for :)
The Piaa H4 sets on ebay are not cheap lol

I had some in my nova, but if I got another one then I'd fit some uprated halogens and make my own wiring harness up - if you fit 100W bulbs on the standard nova wiring then they'll actually be darker due to voltage drop when they try to draw too much current through the thin wires.
Nova beam patterns just arent great with HIDs. If you do decide to go for some, I had 6000k ones in mine, and I'd prefer a warmer colour in future to get more light on the road.
