Radio crackling when engine is running

when the engine is'nt running, the radio is crystal clear but as soon as the engine is started there's a loud cracking noise like static? it doesn't get worse when the engine revs. what could this be? thanks

Noise from the alternator, needs some suppression fitting

your aerial isn't too good or as already said, you need alt. suppression.

What do you mean supression? Is that some sort of device that fits to the head unit

Capacitor unit fitted to the aternator, to eliminate the spikes/noise

you can buy a new suppressor for £3 or so from halfords.. just needs the one earth wire wiring in; replace existing one.
