ok mate what im using but i have 5speed and 4 speed whats best out of them i have the 5 speed on atm and its top end takes piss lol
imho the "best" all round box is an F13 5spd CR with the 4.18 FD fitted.
Gives a nice blend of accel and justabout bearable cruising speeds on motorways etc.
numbers of gears is largely irrelevant, its the ratios and rev drops that are the important bits ;)

what engine would it have come off to be a f13 cr with the FD as on ebay there 1ltr boxes and stuff
vausey, to make an f13cr 4.18fd, involves finding a f13cr box, and then taking an old sr box apart for the 4.18fd. this can be done by finding an sr 5 speed box, and removing the cluster, then swapping the final drive gears over & fitting the f13 cluster in it. now this is a relatively easy job with access to a puller set and some decent mechanic skills
but get the rest of your car sorted first

rest of car is fine now mate and erm ill just have to hope some one has a f13 cr with that final drive as i dont have time and pulers ect to do it
you won't find it as it is a home hybrid.
time to strip box.......15mins x 2
time to swap gear over using circlip pliers & puller 5 mins
time to assemble box 20 mins tops.
then 1hr for bolting in & filling with oil....
2 hrs tops
you can buy gasket kits off ebay for cheap...
