Whats the crack with these, are they banned in rallies? banned on circuits?
What are your options if you have a sunroofed shell,ie would it be new roofskin,or is there anything else that can be done?

You have to remove glass and plate it. Seen ones that just rivet alloy plate other but friend just plated his and filled tetc and looks smart and standard.

calibras have a metal sunroof (not glass ) its too big for the nova but you could trim it down an use it to plate the hole

Iirc, on enduro and road rallies they are acceptable, but many scruts ask for tape over them. Many just remove the glass and plate it with ally plate, sikaflex and rivets, a lot easier than a new roof skin as many aren't show n shine cars anyway so it doesn't matter.

I assume for track days its more that theres extra weight high up than anything else..

Iv plated mine up and can get pics up later if you want? Looks good and weighs lots less than the glass....

I didnt buy it so had no choice in sun roof or not, I dont see the problem with plating it up to be honest. I used thin ish sheet steel and welded it flush with the rest of the roof skin, then used a flapping wheel to get them flat and then filled it. I only needed a little bit of filler to be honest, lots less than i thought!

Have you ever changed a roof skin? Plating it is so so so much easier and takes far less time.:thumb:

Nova16xev, i love the belt sander on the roof! did you actually belt sander it down?? lol

As for track cars is mainly for roll cage fitment from what i can figure out,as you'll find it hard to fit a cage with one, and if you do the sunroof become useless as it cant retract back, just pop up only IIRC, also weight savings etc..

Think Ernie plated one over on his Stick car??

:p

I put on far too much filler the first time round and cba to sand it all down by hand, turns out the belt sander raped all of the filler off and I did it again properly.
Just saved me a **** load of hand sanding time!!!

Don't you need a mega monster cage to keep the shell's rigidity?

And here mine with a retracting sunroof & cage!

I know its not the best shot of it, but you can see that my cage is closer to the shell the the one in Mazz's car.

And mine is tagged to the A-B pillars.

Yes, there are 2 types, sunroof and non-sunroof...non-sunroof ones are taller

I tried to fit a non-sunroof into mine and it didn't work :(

You can how close it is on the roof and the legs didn't go far enough back as it was hitting the sunroof..

The cage il be using will be fairly beefy!! And its custom so it dont matter about the sun roof we will be working round it, It will be tagged in a few differant places so the shell should be fairly solid!!

^thats exactly what you want, a proper nice tight fitting cage like.
