As above, is it just the front panel that is different or the crossmember as well?

Wrong.
Front panels on the shell are all the same.
Crossmembers are different depending on whether your using a mk1 or mk2 bumper.
Are you not thinking of the carrier bar ?

all the cross members are the same as all they do is hold the tie bars.

The crossmember is the metal bar behind the bumper.
That attaches to bumper to the front panel of the car.

Can you prove that what you said is true ?
I dont have my haynes with me.
But i think the part your on about is the lower front panel, i might be wrong but i think im right unless you can show me some proper evidence.
I dont need to prove nowt son,Everybody refers to the crossmember as the bit the tie bars bolt to,the front valance (what your calling the lower front panel) is the face of the crossmember.

Well im not saying your wrong because im not %100 sure im right.
But ive always called them that, so until i check my haynes manual tomorow and find out what the real names are im sticking to my guns until PROVED otherwise.
cross member is the same, front panal is only differant in how the vin plate sits iirc.
And Lewi the bumper iron is the same Mk1 or Mk2 its the brackets the bolt it to the car that are differant lengths :thumb:

there, front panel without crossmember is the front valance,it attaches to the crossmember

By not including the cross member it could mean the 'bumper iron' though.
I believe you a bit now but im still not sure till i get concrete evidence lol

Ill rep you if you prove me wrong.
LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Slam panel is where the VIN plate sits and these differ between mk1 & 2 simply by the angle the VIN plate sits at, oh and the TD ones have a slot on the inner right side as you look at it, this is where the air feed for the airbox clips in due to limited space in the bay iirc, this is the bit that the locking mechanism for the bonnet catch is located.
Cross member is the bottom part of the car between the two chassis legs which the tie bars bolt onto and the BUMPER IRON bolts into.
Bumper iron is the metal bar which sits behind the bumper and the bumper mounts to, as above they are pretty much the same apart from the bumper fixings, Lewi, youre in the wrong dude seriously, stop digging lad and go start doing your 90's dj'ing on a friday night and leave nova triva to us :p

a cross member is a structural part of the chassis and a mk2 grille wont clip into a mk1 front slam panel
FLOL at you lewi!!
Yep the crossmembers are the same.

here, theres a pic,and the bumper for sale WITH reinforcer is what you calling a crossmember
a cross member is a structural part of the chassis
What i said only in ten words lol
The bumper iron/bar/carrier is not a structural part:thumb:
