Howdy all,

I've traded my WRX in as it was costing me a little too much on fuel - decided to go for a passat and it's surprising, turns in quicker than the Impreza and feels as stable in highspeed long corners....:p

So, it's only 170 but about the same torque as the WRX. I was looking at having it tuned - simple remap but there is talk of a DPF restricting the ability to get more than a 20 bhp increase. Anyone any idea what a DPF is, is it smaller injectors?

All in all happy with the car.

Diesel Particulate Filer, that removes the soot for emissions

and you cant remove it iirc, unlike a cat.

Cheers, so the car has to be running right to ensure this works and is not killed by getting clogged. Oh well I'll keep it standard, it's just for work and I'll use the Nova for fun:thumb:

just go for a nice free flow zorst and an air filter and a remap, if your flush try a fmic. that should be good for 200bhp and huuuuge torque.

remap will work well, is it common rail?

imho stay away from derv remaps... but then what do I know, I've only seen dervs have "thermal events" from an over clogged DPF and a remap causing higher EGT's.

Got a proper slagging off for that on ukpassats.co.uk lol

You will probably notice by the mpg dropping (overfuels slightly to burn soot out). It can't be removed (yet) the ecu see's to many signals.

well yes melting..... of the whole car!!!!!

Removing a DPF will be a slag with full access to the ecu software (not just remap bollocks) let alone to some bloke in a 'tuning' place.

This was a few jags and Discos I've seen 'vanish'... the dealer (propper Jag/LR dealer) was taken to court and sued+lost franchise for installing incorrect calibrations.

As much as people say "they cant see it" about a remap, oh trust me, they can ;)

I think some of the Audi boys have cracked removing the DPF, from what I remember it's a bit of a faff and you need to do quite a bit with Vag Com....having said that, if you have vag com you can force a re-gen without donating a kidney to Audi lol

We have Vag Com, them DPfs are £1200 new, fitted a few as they seem to pack up at around 60,000.

We have also removed one, but doing so can put the light on every now and again. :(

We've only ever fitted them to dumbass owners who ignore the warning light, they get full and then won't re-generate. They are however designed to last the lifetime of the car providing they re-gen properly. Removing one off a vw will put the warning light on permanently, they have 4 egts and a probe. I managed to save one at work by removing it, steam cleaning it out, re-fitting and carrying out an emergency re-gen.
