surely a good chrome man can only coat the outside.

Not much help here, but I know it's a dying art in this country. :(

i know it is id love to know how to do it though!!!
I seen a bit of it on Chop Shop London Garage (the shame!) when he got some crap diesel bits done for that **** taxi, or maybe it was for th almost OK Capri they butchered. lol It seems pretty involved, was like a 4/5 stage dipping process.
I'd be interested in what outcome you get mate as a few bits of rusty may get a freshen up at some stage. :thumb:

yea when i get it done ill show you pics matey its on the list with other bits to be done lol
chroming is a dieing art, not massivly because of the time it takes, but the expense to dispose of the chemicals used.
apprantly it uses alot of toxic/dangerous chemcals which the government dont want dumped lol.
we have bits chromed at work, but they are welded and chromed over in the czech replublic as we lost our suppliers in the UK.
we can still get plated parts done, and at a fair price. zinc, nickle etc etc just not chrome :(

Whats the crack with chroming ali?
Does it have to be coated then chromed?
Im not sure if chrome will look right. It will make the head stand out too much:)
don't all metals get a nickel coating followed by a chrome finish?
ally is always the oddball metal. the surface seems to oxidise no matter what. and it seems especially bad on engine components.

Yeah, from having a bash at electro plating, the part is nickel plated followed by chrome, sometimes it can go wrong... horribly wrong lol. Did try it on a rocker cover but don't know what happened with it, would of let you have it otherwise.
Ive had many parts fettled by Quality chrome over the years including one or two rocker covers.... Before any work began the underside of the cover was coated in a special lacqeur to prevent any material sticking to the inside. Their work is exceptional and prices are good too in my opinion. Check out the link below for further details......
