gear lever spins around but still shifts

my gear lever is just spinning in the socket yet i can still selectr gears but i cant figure out why its spinning is there anything that i need to do/replace


any reply welcome asap(in process of doing it now)

i reckon its a ball joint....

sounds like the bit at the bottom of the stick is knackered.

does the ball sit in the bearing type ring in a fixed position when its ok then cos mines just spinning
