I have just picked up an C20XE with the head removed, my problem is that the engine number I was expecting to see is missing and in its place is stamped with the following ;

G4 043 AZ 77136

The original engine number has not been ground off as you can still see the machining marks underneath but these numbers are stamped on the bellhousing web, does anybody know what these numbers relate to as I need to get some rebuild parts !

Cheers in advance.

Not really true. Some places will ask you for the actual engine number to date it, because of differences in the cambelt setup etc :thumb:

You can, but some places do ask for the engine number so they can be sure.

that's also by year.

there are a few places in the engine that have a year stamped into them.

find out if there is a federation of reconditioners... they might have some sort of list...
