I replaced the alternator 3months back because I was only getting 11.5v when running,
Everytime I switch the ignition on or had the car running there was never a battery light present until about a week ago when it just came on and stayed on,
I firstly checked the earths and then realised I had wired up the alternator wrong. - I attached the sender for the clocks onto the little earth post and totally missed off the little black earth wire from the car loom.
So when I sorted that out I was getting 13.8v and the battery light went out as it should do.

But .... last night I went to start the car and the battery was dead, I started it with some jump leads and it was reading 11.5v again,
But I got the car home and it was reading 13.8v again ....
I replaced the battery for the one out of my derv pug because I know its good battery but im only getting 11.5v again!

HAs the alternator got a earth cable to the engine?
IS the blue/white on the alternator good?

The alternator has the earth strap connecting to the engine.
To be honest with you mate im not quite sure,
I forgot to mention I have changed the clocks and now I have no battery light again (I thought it was just the bulb)

Either the earth on the alternator, or the blue/white wire is at fault then.

Could I run an earth from the little 8mm post on the alternator straight back to the chassis or does the earth that comes from the original car loom go other places?
Yes Mowgli I kept the reciept because I have a 12month warranty anyway.
Can the bulb being blown on the clocks cause the alternator not to charge then?

yes, a blown bulb can mess up the charge circuit

After all of this messing around it was just because the bulb was out on the dash ! lol

Its now running 14.27v,

Thank you.
